Special early reviews of Clive Cussler-page 1 (Dirk Pitt)

Pacific Vortex from May 1997

In the first installment of the NUMA series that started it all with Dirk Pitt from Clive Cussler, Pacific Vortex, that launched the phenomenal series. For Dirk Pitt, a deep-sea expert, had taken him to the Pacific Vortex, where a bunch of ships have disappeared to. The latest victim was the supersub Starbuck. Dirk's mission was find it and retrieve it, before the sea explodes. He also encountered a beautiful woman named Summer Moran who trapped him and encountered a bunch of underwater assassins who wanted to stop him as well.

These earlier and classic action-adventures featuring Dirk Pitt had gotten me hooked in all of his series in later year. I loved how we were introduced to NUMA and Dirk and how he became a heroic young man in his early years. I loved how it took us above and below the water, while this sent him to the Pacific Ocean as well. I loved the marine theme and anything that had to do with water and boats. You would be hooked as well, too. Great drama, plenty of intense suspense and action, with lots of adventure and a hint of romance.

The Mediterranean Caper from April 2003

In the 2nd installment of the Dirk Pitt NUMA series from Clive Cussler, the Mediterranean Caper, Dirk Pitt returned for his next adventure on the water. This time, he was teamed up with his partner and latest best friend, Al Giordano, when they were sent to Greece. He dealt with an elusive saboteur of an international smuggling ring with a dangerous experiment, when a WWI fighter plane attacked a modern US Air Force base. It was up to them to stop him in the act.

I loved the location of the Greek island for this novel. I also loved the introduction of Dirk's aerial piloting skills and Al's entrance to the series. Although the Greek isle was ideal and remote,  it did make it more awesome for this storyline. I loved the pairing of Al and Dirk, too. You would hooked and drawn in to the fast-paced action scenes, taken for an adventurous ride in air and down below on the water, and feel exhilarated in the end.

Iceberg from September 1999

In the third installment of Clive Cussler's NUMA Dirk Pitt series, Iceberg, Dirk Pitt returned in another excellent action-adventure than never before. This time, it was up to Dirk and Al to recover the frozen remains of a luxury yacht, which had vanished en route to a secret White House rendezvous. The only clue that Dirk and Al have found was the cargo of the burnt bodies of the crew and ornately craved rings. Can they find it in time?

This was another fantastic Dirk Pitt action-adventure. I loved how it took us to the coldest part of the earth to find this "iceberg" of a ship. I did care about Dirk and Al and wondered how it became frozen in time with hidden clues of its own. This took me an adventure all over the place in a fantastic ride. I held my breath a couple of times and sighed in the end. I love the catchy titles of each book in the series as well. Great drama, plenty of non-stop page-turning action, and lots of adventure throughout the novel with a hint of mystery.

Vixen 03 from September 1998

In the 5th installment of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt NUMA series, Vixen 03, Dirk returned with Al Giordano in another thrilling action-adventure novel. In 1954, Vixen 03 was a historic airplane that carried DoomsDay bombs and vanished into thin air.... crashed into a Colorado lake. Fast forward to 1988, when Dirk and Al uncover the missing plane when two canisters were stolen by terrorists. Now, they were up in a race against time to stop them,, before they would blow up Washington D.C.

This action-adventure was another thrilling one to read. I cared about Dirk and Al and our entire country. I loved how Colorado and Washington D.C. were the dual central locations for this novel. I didn't like the terrorist and their evil plot one bit, either. This would take you on a dangerous thrill ride from start to finish with an adrenalin rush.  Great action, plenty of non-stop drama through and through with tons of adventure and mystery along the way.

Night Probe from December 1998

In the 6th installment of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt NUMA series, Night Probe, Dirk and Al were back in another exciting action-adventure. And he needed Dirk Pitt to find it. But when the UK sent out a master spy named Brian Spy, he would do anything to stop him, before Dirk could raise the treaty like a white flag.

This was another hair-raising and exciting action-adventure NUMA novel. I loved how it dealt with espionage and historical documents for this storyline. I did feel bad for Heidi, who ended up stuck in the middle of the international crisis between both countries. I loved how both the USA and the United Kingdom were the central dual locations for this plot. I was also worried for Dirk and Pitt and hated Shaw's maneuvers, every step of the way. This would definitely place you at the edge of your seat. Excellent drama, great suspense, and lots of intense action and adventure with a hint of mystery along the way.

In the 7th installment of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt NUMA action-adventure series, Deep Six, Dirk Pitt returned in this thrilling novel. Dirk and Al took on a sinister Asian shipping empire and fought to save the country, while seizing one moment for revenge.

This was another action-adventure novel that would leave you speechless. I cared about the President, our country, and Dirk and Al. I didn't like the Asian shipping empire one bit. I loved the high-tension action on the ocean and abroad on land in Asia for the central locations for this novel. This was so gripping, it would make you feel numb. Great action, plenty of suspense and drama, and lots of tension and intrigue to the shocking climax.

Sahara from July 2001

In the 11th installment of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt NUMA series, Sahara, Dirk and Al return in another gripping action-adventure novel. We find them in the Sahara Desert in Egypt in 1996. They were on the trail for lost treasure, they thwarted an assassin attempt on an US scientist who were investigating a maddening disease in Mali. In the desert, they find a slave-manned gold mine, when they discover the lost secrets of Amelia Earhart's last flight and Lincoln's assassination, and make their last stand to solve this world from going into another battle.

This was another gripping action-adventure novel from Clive Cussler. I continue to care about Dirk and Al, when they were in Africa. What a perfect location for this novel, especially from Mali to Egypt. I didn't like the slaves manning the mine, which was a bit like human trafficking these days.  This made me cringe and shake my head in disbelief. I loved the historical connection to Lincoln and Earhart for this action-thriller, when it linked to treasure and gold. Great non-stop action, plenty of drama and intrigue with plenty of adventure on a dangerous and mystical journey.
