A Suitable Vengenance

In Elizabeth George's A Suitable Vengeance, the 4th installment in the Inspector Lynley Mystery series, this novel deals with hard-core topics that went straight to the jugular. It all started when Lynley announced his engagement to Deborah Cotter and brought her home. At the time of the merry celebration, his brother Peter storms into the festivities with his girlfriend. He haven't seen him in years. Meanwhile, Nancy Chambrey discovers her husband Mick's dead body in his office and calls for help, signaling Lynley and Simon St. James to come to her aid. At the gruesome sight, they wait for the Met Police to come to her home. This started his investigation into Chambrey's murder and dug right into his personal life and his career as a reporter. Meanwhile, St. James assists him and deals with his sister's Sidney's issue with her boyfriend Justin Brooke. But later, they fight and argue, when he took a nosedive off the cliff that ended his life. Between Lynley and St. James, they try to piece together the connection between both deaths when Peter asks for Lynley's help when his girlfriend is found dead in his bed.  While he tried to set things right with his brother and to clear his name, both Lynley and St. James discovers the road that led them  to a miracle cancer drug that was behind it all. In the end, they came to the same conclusion on who done it and why with a shocking ending to tie up the loose ends in this compelling and dark mystery.

This was another fantastic mystery from Elizabeth George. I instantly cared for Thomas Lynley, who had to dealt with his concerned feelings for Deborah, his brother's wayward return home, and how this might affect his mother. He kept his game face on and tackled with the toughest issues and decisions he had ever to make, concerning his personal life and the investigation. I also felt connected to Deborah, who was torn between the two loves in her life, and had to make a tough decision to make in the end. I did feel a bit the same way for Simon St. James, who professed his feelings for her a little bit too late, though he was a good friend to Lynley to help him clear his brother's name. I loved the steadfast location in and around London and the scenic settings of the cliff and of Lynley's home. The dual themes are to don't make promises you can't keep and sell it to others under false pretenses and looks can be deceiving.

If you love a terrific hard-boiled mystery with non-stop drama, plenty of action, tons of suspense, and lots of intrigue, you're in for a treat in A Suitable Vengeance. Grab a copy to dig in and read!

The Finders

In Jeffrey B. Burton's The Finders, the first installment in the Mace Reid K-9 Mystery thriller series, this delightful introduction to a new charming series featuring K-9 dogs you're bound to love. It all started when Mason received a call about an abandoned golden retriever at a crime scene, it tugged his heart when Officer Kippy Gimm came to the puppy's rescue as the puppy miraculously survived a tough ordeal and surprised them all. That's when Mason adopted her and named her Elvira, "Vira" for short, and trained her as a K-9 dog along with his other dogs Sue, Delta, and Maggie May. Fast forward, a year later, Mason and Vira are called on the scene when Vira attacked Nicky Champine. Something drew her to him when she went on attack mode. While he's told to "put her to sleep", he covers the fact that he's keeping her, even from Officer Gimm. Later, he's on the trail of the Choker Necklace killer when he returned to Champine's horror house and discovered a live victim there among other earth-shattering secrets. While this happened, a serial killer known as Everyman is on the prowl and watches the scene before him. He covers his tracks and plans to go after Mace Reid and his dogs. As this goes on, Mace and Vira, along with the CPD to put the pieces together and devise a timeline of the past crimes. Little did they know, that Everyman set out a trap to lure for Reid and attack him and his dogs. Right under their noses, they discovers he was right under their noses and identifies him, as a shocking twist pops up when they piece it all together to solve this grisly crime spree and stop him in his tracks before he leaves town.

This was a fantastic introduction to the Mace Reid K-9 Mystery Series. I loved learning about Mace's background in his personal and private life and how he devoted his time on training dogs in obedience and in law enforcement. He's my type of guy. And Vira was one of the canine stars of the show in this novel. I love K-9 dogs to be featured in any genre. She was like a phoenix to rise from the ashes, when she was first found dead and revived to have an ironic mystical power to use her scent and smell for tracking dead bodies and serial killers. I loved the location around Chicago and the fascinating scenic settings for this wonderful new series. I'll be sure to read more installments in the future, whether in e-arc or when it comes out. The theme for this novel is be blessed by having canines in the line of duty or for home and be careful to whom you trust on the highway.

If you love dog-lovers stories with non-stop action, plenty of drama, intriguing suspense, and lots of great scenes featuring dogs, check out the Finders when it comes out on Tuesday! Get your copy today!

You Don't Know Me

In Sara Foster's You Don't Know Me, this psychological thriller will leave you gasping for air and chilled all over in the end. For Noah Carruso, he worked in his family's restaurant in Sydney and lived in fear of his brother Tom's shadow. Over a decade ago, Lizzie Burdett's, Tom's girlfriend disappeared and never to be seen again. When an inquest pops up and a true crime podcast reporting the mystery, it drudged up painful memories on that fateful night when he was fifteen. On vacation in Thailand, he bumps into a woman named  Alice Pryce, who looked similarly to Lizzie with her red hair. She's an ESL teacher there and escaped from her painful past with her own burden to share. Their relationship was magical and blissful when they shared memories together. But when Noah's called back home to help out with the inquest, they parted. For Alice, she lived in fear and stayed in Thailand, her father was behind bars for a crime. The haunting memories of that faithful night when danger loomed and targeted them. When she receives a call about her father's health condition in Sydney, she returns home and reunites with Noah, revealing a partial truth of the past, bridging them closer together and meets his family. Together, they faced the demons that shrouded them with dread. When Noah's brother returns home for the inquest, he learns things haven't changed and new questions resurface on what happened. When it was Noah's turn to testify, he revealed all, suspicion, curiosity and blame. And when someone threatened their restaurant with a bomb scare, he discovers the shocking truth about that night and who'd done it..someone closer to home. But in the end, it couldn't face seeing Alice until they meet again.

This thriller had plenty twists and turns to keep you guessing in every page. I cared for Noah who worked his butt off for his father, who never cared a wit about him. He always felt pressured to do right by him, until he escaped on his Thai vacation and met Alice. And she changed him for the better, until the past reared its ugly head with the inquest. I also loved Alice, who was also dealing with a bum wrap with his father's medical condition. I loved that she cared for Noah, though it might break her heart later. I loved the dual locations of Thailand and Australia with lovely lush scenic settings to transport there where the action took place. The theme is to let go of the past and live in the present to seek a better future. One way or another, the truth would come out.

If you love non-stop action, plenty of suspenseful drama, lots of intrigue, and a great novel to take your breath away, sink your teeth into You Don't Know Me today.

The Wedding War

In Liz Talley's The Wedding War, this  endearing woman's fiction will bring you to tears about friendship, family, life, and love from start to finish. Tennyson Abernathy and Melanie Layton have been childhood best friends in Shreveport, Louisiana. Until they went their separate lives and when Tennyson ruined Melanie's wedding to Kit. Now fast forward twenty years, Melanie's daughter is engaged to Andrew Abernathy, Tennyson's son. And when Tennyson rolled back into town, it brought back the hurt and the pain of their best friendship. While this is going on with the wedding planning, she dealt with her strict mother, her sister's illness with eating disorders, her son Noah's concerns, and Kit's associate who wants him for herself. It's a bit too much for her. For Tennyson, she had hated Melanie for stealing Kit and had no regrets ruining her wedding. But when she's back in town, she set her eyes on Officer Joseph Rhett as her newest flame. While she plans the wedding with Melanie, she wants to try to set things right with Melanie and started anew as a shoulder to lean on and have some delicious fun. Through this time before the wedding, they were there for each other and want a second chance with each other since they're now reunited as family and blood is thicker than water for a sweet ending.

This was a beautiful and moving woman's fiction novel between two best friends and how they became blended as a family. I cared for Melanie who was a bit overwhelmed with family life and other issues. I didn't blame her for snapping and falling apart at the seams. I didn't care for Charlotte who was a floozy. I cared for Tennyson who wouldn't stop at nothing to clasp her eyes on Joseph and to try to do right for Andrew and to make amends with Melanie anyway possible. They both had been through a lot of heartache throughout the years. I loved how diverse Melanie and her family was, since they're part-Japanese, and part Southern.  I loved the Shreveport location with the idealistic and fascinating scenic settings at happened around the town. The themes are here is about forgiveness and second chances in life, love, friendship and family.
