Ravishing in Red

In the first installment of Madeleine Hunter's The Rarest Blooms historical romance series, Ravishing in Red, she gave us a most fascinating read that would captivate your heart and your mind. For Audrianna Kemsleigh, she wanted to find the reason why her father died in shame and scandal. For Sebastian Summerhays, he met Audrianna at the lodge to find this person named "Domino", when they ended up in a scandal itself on the gossip sheets. They were both under scrutiny and looking for the same reasons behind the bad gun powder, when his brother was injured by a bullet wound and paralyzed for it. To save her reputation, Audrianna had to go into a marriage of convenience, while they investigate the root source of the scandal and fall in love, when it became a match made out of love in the end.

This was a most fascinating and wonderful historical romance. I cared about Audrianna's plight and Sebastian's concern for her brother. I loved the English locations that was set during that time period. This would make you keep reading to the end to find out what happened in one or two sittings. You would also fall in love with them and this series, too. Great drama, excellent non-stop action with heated romance, suspense and an  intriguing mystery, too.

Killer Heels

In Sheryl Anderson's Killer Heels, the first installment in the Molly Forrester mystery series, this mystery has it all--romance, humor, and plenty of intrigue. Molly was a columnist for Zeitgeist magazine, when she wanted to get away from it all and become a real journalist. As she discovered the dead body of a colleague, that's when she investigated the murder and met the handsome Kyle Edwards, a police detective for the NYPD. As they dug into Teddy Reynolds's life, she suspected a couple of people from her magazine, until her boss wounded up dead. The closer the truth she'd gotten to uncover an, the more she couldn't believe the real culprit was and why, when her life was on the line.

This was an excellent introduction to the Molly Forrester mystery series, which packed a helluva punch in the first couple of pages. I cared about Molly, Tricia and Cassady, including Kyle Edwards. I felt bad for Helen, and was on the fence for Yvonne and Gretchen. I liked the NYC location for the vast scenic settings for this mystery debut. This would make you think twice and suspect everyone you know with goosebumps and gasps on every page. Great drama, good suspense, excellent non-stop action with tons of intrigue and humor.

Murder on Molokai

In Chip Hughes's Murder on Moloka'i, the first installment of the Surfing Detective Mystery series, we're taken on a wild and thrilling ride in Hawaii. For Kai Cooke, a surfing detective for the Hawaiian islands, his first case was requested by Adrienne Ridgely, when her sister had died from an accidental death on the mule ride. That's when he looked into the array of suspects that ranged from her sister's ex-husband to the people who were also on the mule ride. As he dug deeper into Sarah's life, things get grim when Adrienne was hit by a car and threats were aimed at Kai. That's when he knew about the hui had some involved into it and needed to throw a monkeywrench into their landing zoning plans for good, even if he staked his life for it.

This was a great introduction to the Surfing Detective series. I cared about Kai and Adrienne's plight to find justice for her sister. I loved the Hawaiian locations in this novel with vast scenic settings in various Hawaiian cities, since we learn about their culture and customs on living on the islands. This would take you on a wild ride on the ocean to keep you thrilled with this fast-paced mystery novel.  Great drama, excellent suspense and intrigue, with lots of non-stop action and intrigue along the way.

Married Til Monday

In Denise Hunter's Married 'Til Monday, the 4th installment in the Chapel Springs christian romance series, this was a heart-warming and lovely Christian romance novel that tugs your heart. In this novel, it focused on Ryan McKinley and his ex-wife Abby. When his former in-laws invited to their anniversary party, when they kept their divorce a secret. On the road trip to and back to the party, they revisited how they met, fell in love, got  married, and what made it fell apart, when they lead separate lives. Abby and Ryan rediscovered each other and fell in love with a fresh start, while she acknowledged the heartache of her father's verbal abuse against her, while Cole and PJ tied the knot for this fairytale ending.

This was so beautiful and made it cry throughout the novel. I loved Abby and Ryan on how they've worked through their issues. But I hated Abby's parents and Lewis for how they crushed Abby's self-esteem. I loved how Ryan's family supported her and re-welcomed her into the fold. I loved the Chapel Springs and Indianapolis dual locations for the scenic settings. This really pulled at your heart strings for an emotional wild ride. Great drama, a hint of suspense, intrigue and lots of light non-stop actions.

Special review: Left for Dead from October 2008

In Kevin O'Brien's Left for Dead, when Claire Shaw awakened in a Seattle hospital, she didn't recognize the faces from her husband and friends, while she knew she was lucky to be alive and a lone survivor from a serial killer. She understood she was a mistake like the others, and there would be no escape, when her eyes focused on the beautiful, perfect terror. When she returned home to her island home from the mainland, she returned to a life she didn't know anymore, a town that can feel it too, when the evil remained hidden behind its facade. Slowly, Claire's memories return and take shape, when it really feels like home.

This was another gripping and spell-binding thriller. I cared about Claire Shaw and the precarious state she wounded up in, when had amnesia and felt danger closed in on her. I also loved the Seattle island location that isolated her from the mainland for the settings to foreshadow the ever present danger. This reeled me in for a wild emotional roller coaster ride from the first to last page. Great drama, excellent non-stop action and suspense, intrigue and mystery.

Special Review: Speak No Evil from July 2008

In Allison Brennan's Speak No Evil, the first installment in the No Evil romantic suspense trilogy, she sent us thrilling chills in this romantic suspense trilogy debut. Silence can be deadly. It all started with the vile murder of Angie Vance with her mouth glued shut, an obscenity scrawled on her skin and suffocation by garbage bag. That brought Police Detective Catrina Kincaid over to the scene, when she met Sheriff Nick Thomas by investigating his brother, Angie's ex-boyfriend. With Nick scarred from a recent confrontation of a serial killer, he would do anything to prove his brother's innocence, while learning about his dark side, when a friend of the victim suffered from the same fate. Now it was up to the both of them to trap a psychopath before another unlucky woman becomes his next victim.

This was a mind-blowing romantic suspense that would send chills up and down your spine. I cared about Catrina and Nick, when they dealt with a dark evil force that threw them together and put them at ends. I loved the California location for the scenic depicted settings, when sparks flew between Catrina and Nick. This would hook you on the first page and compel you to keep reading straight to the end. Great suspense with lots of non-stop action, intrigue, mystery and romance.

The Race

In Clive Cussler's The Race, the 4th installment in the Isaac Bell historical action-adventure series, this time he took to the friendly skies on an aerial race. It all started with Josephine Josephs, who wanted to be the first woman to race cross-country in an airplane, when she witnessed her husband attempted to kill her friend and lover. That's when Issac and the other Van Dorn detectives were assigned to protect her during the race from her husband. During the race, there was a lot of mayhem, sabotage, murder, and a lot of deceit, when Isaac took to the skies and fly a plane himself while protecting her and learned the hard earned truth about the plotted scheme to make her a winner--or not.


This was another fascinating historical action-adventure series from Clive Cussler. He tackled automobiles and trains in the past three books, and now have done airplane so beautifully. I loved Isaac with Marion and rest of the Van Dorns. I didn't like Harry or Marco Celere one bit and felt bad for Josephine to fall for their vile acts of love and deception. I wasn't certain about her feelings on Preston Whiteway. I loved the cross country locations and vast scenic locations for the entire novel.  This would make you ooh and ahh through the storyline, like you were watching fireworks in the sky.  Terrific non-stop action with suspense, intrigue, drama and a hint of romance along the way.

Quicksilver

In Toni Dwiggins's Quicksilver, the prequel to her Forensic Geology mystery series, this was a great introduction to the series. It all started with the search for Robert Shelburne's missing brother, which led them on a crazy path of finding long lost blue-colored stones to lead them to the quicksilver, something his brother had been poisoned with. When they've found him, that's when it gets interesting as family secrets poured out about the past, when they discovered some hidden clues between the Shelburnes and the blue stones, until his disappeared on them again.

This was a fascinating prequel to this forensic geology series. I've learned so much about geology that I would've learn in school, even for earth science classes. This mystery packs a helluva punch with only four characters to steal the show. I cared for Cassie and Walter, didn't like Henry much and was on the fence for Robert. I loved the California location with the vast scenic settings from Silicon Valley to the trail of gold.  This would make you take in the sights with a deep sigh. Great drama, excellent suspense and intrigue with a hint of mystery.

What Lies Behind

In J.T. Ellison's What Lies Behind, the 4th installment in the Samantha Owens thriller series, get ready to be at the edge of the seat for this thrill ride. It all started when Sam woke up to the sound of sirens, which wasn't usual for this former medical examiner. But when Sam and her partner, Detective Daren Fletcher arrived at the crime scene, they believe it might've been staged. As they dug deeper into the investigation, they discover the truth behind the missing vials of a water-borne bio-terror disease that could threaten their water system. As they were called into a meeting of the local politicians, they wanted to know what they've found out, as they were on a manhunt for a killer and a possible leak of who killed one of their own and why someone came close of dying. Worst of all, Sam's boyfriend Xander was stuck in the midst of this crisis, too, until there was a shocking truth revealed in the end.

This was a powerful and extraordinary thriller that dealt with the matter of homegrown bio-terrorism in our own country. I continued to care for Sam and her relationship with Xander as it blossomed and grew into something more... serious. I love the vast locations in Washington D.C. for the settings. This tackled hard core topics and subject matters that we deal about now in our own world. This would make you think and grit your teeth while second-guess anything else. Great drama, excellent non-stop action, plenty of intrigue and suspense with tons of mystery in store of this thriller.

Deadly Magic

In Elisabeth Crabtree's Deadly Magic, the first installment in the Grace Holliday cozy mystery, she told us a gripping tale about hidden secrets and deadly twists. It was on Halloween night, when Grace was called on stage for the crystal chest act for the magic show. And that's when things took a turn for the worse, when her boss's wife was late found killed. That had turned everything topsy-turvy, which had changed things for Grace at the toy company and store she worked at. When she was relocated to a new position and others had quit, Grace was put in charge of finding out who killed Lily Straker along with everyone else. With a new assistant and Belle Dragovich to add to the team, she received anonymous phone calls, when more people had gotten in the way and ended up killed. In the end, she didn't expect to be double-crossed by the two people she trusted the most with a drastic ending.

This was a great new cozy series with a hint of magic for the plotline. I liked Grace and cared about her, while the jury was still out on some characters. I did feel bad for Belle and Kyle, and a little bit about Louisa.  There were some plot twists I didn't see coming, especially at the end. I loved the New York City location for the settings, when it dealt with toys and magic. This would make you stay at the edge of your seat, right until the end. Great drama, good action and lots of suspenseful intrigue for the mystery.

Beneath the Moon and the Stars

In Amelia Thorne's Beneath the Moon and the Stars, she told us a heart-warming love story about finding love and a new home with some serious consequences. For Joy Cartier, she wanted a new start in Bramble Hill, England, when she lost her parents years ago, and have been traveling from place to place. But her neighbors didn't care for her and gave her hell, except for her newfound friend Casey and Zach Fallowfield, and Finn Mackenzie, the local celebrity. But Joy had a secret about being a horticultural artist with a chainsaw and carved some awesome sculptures out of dead trees. But for some people believe she was the diamond thief who've hit their town, while Joy and Finn tried to get along as friends, but it blossomed into something more, when something bad happened to her. They've tried to find their own in love and forced them to reveal their true feelings, when they've found each other in the end.

This was a beautiful contemporary romance about love and home in one wonderful contemporary romance. I cared about Joy and her friendship with Finn, Casey and Zach. I loved how Alex looked out for her and found love in an unexpected twist in the end. I didn't like how the villagers treated her one bit, even if they tried to poison her and her dad. This was so beautiful, it made me laugh, cry, sigh and cringe in a few spots. I loved the relationship between Finn and Joy, too. This would make your heart swell with taught heart strings on this emotional roller coaster.  Great drama with nice non-stop action, great romance with some humor and intrigue throughout this novel.

Special review: Tilt a Whirl from June 2008

In Chris Grabenstein's Tilt a Whirl, the first book in the John Ceepak Mystery series, we were introduced to a dynamite team of John Ceepak and Danny Boyle.  When Ceepak joined the Sea Haven police department after his tour of duty in Iraq, he was teamed up with his partner, 24-year-old Danny Boyle, his part-time summer cop, who doesn't carry a gun, to work on their first mind-boggling case.  A billionaire real estate tycoon was found murdered on the tilt-a-whirl, when he received job offer from his buddy to forget about the horrors of war. It was up to the two of them to find the murderer and why, when Ceepak was the lead for the investigation. When they worked on this case together, it pushed Ceepak's deep sense of humor to the limits as they uncovered twists and turns to discover the truth in every direction.


This was a great introduction to the John Ceepak mystery series. We've gotten to know how Ceepak got the job and partnered with Danny on this shocking murder case. I cared about them from when they first met. I loved the Sea Haven scenic fictional town set on the Jersey shore with vast lovely settings for the location. This has tons of humor and plenty of suspense to keep you reading every page. Great drama, good non-stop action, intrigue, suspense and lots of mystery.

Summer of Firefly Memories

In Joan Gable's Summer of Firefly Memories, the first installment in the Loon Lake Woman's fiction romance series, she told us a beautiful tale about family and second chances in love. For Samantha McGreggor and her two sisters, they lost their parents, twenty years ago. They had dealt with the loss in their own way and haven't seen each other since. That's why Samantha decided to reunite them to Loon Lake in Minnesota. For Sammy, she was an environmental writer who met the Hunter siblings who owned their cabins from the previous writer. It was a magical summer, when she found new love for writing and with Jake, and learned about reliving old memories while making new ones with her sister Cassandra, who's the oldest and newly pregnant, while worried about her marriage, Alexandra, the youngest who finally graduated from college and starting a new career, but had a lot of angst about her sisters, and Gabriella, a mother of three boys, who had something new to share with the sisters. It had brought them closer together than before.

This was a beautiful and heartfelt woman's fiction novel. I cared about Sammy and her three sisters and the new changes in their lives. I also cared about Kelly, who wanted to have a baby. I loved the Loon Lake location in Minnesota that brought them together with a heart-to-heart talk about the past in order to be together for the future. The scenic settings were wonderful and amazing. This would make you laugh, cry, smile, and sigh by the end of the novel--a wonderful start to the series, too. Great drama, romance, a bit of action, and lots of intrigue in this beautiful novel.
