Devil's Gate

In Clive Cussler's Devil's Gate, the 9th installment in the Kurt Austin NUMA Files action-adventure series, this captivating novel would have you hooked in no time. It all started for Kurt Austin and his crew with their latest assignment to salvage a sunken ship at the bottom of the ocean. That's when the Russians sent Katarina, a fellow scientist to be a spy on the same ship. But low and be hold, that's when they team up and join forces to eliminate another threat. Someone had gotten hold of a secret weapon that's so powerful with superconductive energy to wipe out the people at the end of the earth. They call it Devil's Gate, which is much stronger than the legendary Bermuda Triangle. But Kurt's old nemesis, Andras, has worked with a Sierra Leone leader named Djemma Garand, who wants to destroy the USA. Before they could deal with that, during the same mission, it had knocked out Paul Trout and put him into a coma, when he and Gamay had worked to salvage the ship from a submersible. After Paul recovers, Kurt learns how Andras had kidnapped several people including Katerina, when he had been taken hostage with Joe. For them, it's a race to escape and to save the USA from massive destruction in a grueling life-and-death battle.

This was a gripping and intense action-adventure novel to leave you at the edge of your seat. I cared for Kurt and Joe and the Trouts as well. I also became fond of Katerina, who could be Kurt's newest main squeeze. I loved how it took front and center stage on the ships in the ocean near Africa and beyond for diverse scenic locations. This would make you want to hold your breath and join Kurt's team with non-stop action, drama, suspense and plenty of mystery from start to finish.

Will you be there to stop Devil's Gate from destroying human lives?

The Jungle

(Since I've originally read this novel in August 2012, I've updated it with a brand new review.)

In Clive Cussler's The Jungle, the 8th installment in the Oregon Files action-adventure series, get prepared to be blown away by fast-paced action series that had taken place in a post-911 world. It all started, when Juan Cabrillo and his crew mated had received orders to rescue a Pakistani boy from the terrorists. It was no rescue mission, when he met Marion  "MacD" Lawless, who had been a prisoner and had worked overseas. From there, they team up to escape, when things go awry for Cabrillo. Then he had gotten a call from Roland Croissard, a Swiss millionaire, who had requested their services to rescue his daughter Soleil in a Burmese camping trip. Things aren't what they seem to be, when they've been duped by a "John Smith" who's been working along them to rescue her. Since their meeting site was being attacked by bombs, they knew something was fishy and odd as Juan was taken prisoner and faced hours of water torture. When his crew rescued them, they recovered Soleil as a prisoner, too, and they knew that Suleiman Bahar had set them up into the trap. He wants to rule the world and have everyone at his knees as he uses crystals to control a quantum computer to destroy places and things by a sound of the voice. At the request of the President and their former boss, Langton Overholt, Juan and his team get ready to go undercover in a salt mine to take them out and destroy the computer before it was too late.

This was an excellent and mind-blowing action-adventure on land and on water. I cared about Juan Cabrillo and his team mates, especially his newest one, MacD. I also cared for Soleil Croissard as well, who had been dealt such a tough blow. I despised Bahar and everything he had done in plain sight. I loved the Middle Eastern settings from Myanmar, Phillippines, and elsewhere with gripping scenic location.  This would make you gasp and shake your head, cheer on Juan with his crew, and hook you with a thrill ride with non-stop action, drama, suspense and intrigue.

Crescent Dawn

In Clive Cussler's Crescent Dawn, the 21st installment in the Dirk Pitt NUMA action-adventure series, this took you right into the heart of the Middle East. It all started with the missing Roman galley who disappeared many centuries again. Now with a heated war between Turkey and Israel during a political year, things get down to the nitty gritty. For Dirk and the NUMA cry, it all began with a vacation and them it went downhill from there with stolen antiquities, terrorism and piracy, and the loot of pilfered treasures. It reached far back from England and back to the shores. For the Celik siblings, they wanted to do it for power for their new leader. But they would do anything to get in their ways from explosives to committing murders. When Dirk and his crew are onto them, it's a fight to the finish on land and on sea with a fitting ending.

This was another fascinating action-adventure novel with gripping pages to read. I cared about Dirk and his family, along with the NUMA crew. I hated to see Sophie killed from a senseless act of violence. I didn't like the Celiks one bit, while Bannister was okay. I loved to see Dirk Jr. and Summer have adventures of their own. The scenery from England to Cyprus, Turkey and Israel was stunning for the locations. This would enthrall you with plenty of action, drama, twists and turns, and lots of adventure and suspense every step of the way.

Will you be ready to go exploring by a crescent dawn?

The Race

In Clive Cussler's The Race, the 4th installment in the Isaac Bell historical action-adventure series, this time he took to the friendly skies on an aerial race. It all started with Josephine Josephs, who wanted to be the first woman to race cross-country in an airplane, when she witnessed her husband attempted to kill her friend and lover. That's when Issac and the other Van Dorn detectives were assigned to protect her during the race from her husband. During the race, there was a lot of mayhem, sabotage, murder, and a lot of deceit, when Isaac took to the skies and fly a plane himself while protecting her and learned the hard earned truth about the plotted scheme to make her a winner--or not.

This was another fascinating historical action-adventure series from Clive Cussler. He tackled automobiles and trains in the past three books, and now have done airplane so beautifully. I loved Isaac with Marion and rest of the Van Dorns. I didn't like Harry or Marco Celere one bit and felt bad for Josephine to fall for their vile acts of love and deception. I wasn't certain about her feelings on Preston Whiteway. I loved the cross country locations and vast scenic locations for the entire novel.  This would make you ooh and ahh through the storyline, like you were watching fireworks in the sky.  Terrific non-stop action with suspense, intrigue, drama and a hint of romance along the way.

Will you come aboard to join the race? If so, hit the friendly skies today!

Dark Watch

Juan Cabrillo was back in his third adventure on the sea in Clive Cussler's the Dark Watch, the third book in the  Oregon Files series. When the Oregon had a mission, they were always up for the challenge. Juan and his crew were in Asia to target one in particular undercover. Their adventures on the ocean in the sea. They ran across someone who survived a pirating and escaped from their clutches. And when they saved her, they picked up the pieces. But their enemies were one and many in Europe who wanted to make a profit from gold. Plenty of drama on the ocean and even in a volcanic island, we saw how they escaped evil and death in every move. If you love to be taken for a wild ride, we'll see it from Juan and his crew and from the criminal masterminds themselves.

This was a feel good action-adventure novel that took us below the sea and above the surface. I love how they traveled from place to place, like from Asia to Europe looking for treasure. I did feel for Juan and his crew members, which played an equally central part in the novel. I did feel sorry for the female victim, who ended up caught into a seafaring crossfire of sorts. There's plenty of action and adventure in every scene on every page with a hint of romance and a dollop of mystery and suspense too.

Are you ready to sail across the sea for a dark watch? Come aboard with a copy of the book today!

Lost Empire

If you love fast-paced action adventure novels, this one's for you. In the second installment of the Fargo series by Clive Cussler, The Lost Empire, Remi and Sam Fargo dive for treasures off Madagascar and Tanzania in Africa, when they came close to danger from a secret Aztec military army, who wanted something to not be exposed and not revealed. When they get closer, the more in danger they were  in and tried to be stopped by the Aztecs. Every step of the way, they did dig deeper into the history between the bell clipper from a lost ship, and the hidden meaning behind the symbolism. This would keep you up and off your seats for a fast read.

This was another fantastic action-adventure novel above and below the surface of the water. I love the marine theme and another NUMA series. I loved the central locations of Africa and the Aztecs for this series as well. I believe the Fargo couple make a formidable and excellent team. I did care about them, when they breached the rim of the mystery. This made for a great read, when you want to go on an adventure of your own.  Great drama, intense action for an explorable adventure, and plenty of suspense on every page.

Dragon

If you love a good action-adventure novel, you'll enjoy the Dirk Pitt series by Clive Cussler.  In the 10th installment, Dragon, it took place in the 1990s. When a ship was in trouble, it disrupted NUMA's mission at Soggy Acres underground. But  things always weren't what they seem, when they've been recruited to join a MAIT team. Once briefed, they learned about a new evil empire in Japan who used robots for employees, and planned a devious plan to take over Europe, the Western Bloc countries, and USA. Once they discovered what they're up to, it was now up to Pitt and NUMA to bring them down, when they were a lot of betrayal and angst from World War Two. When the  Japanese hatched a plan to destroy it by blackmail by nuclear bombs,  it was now up to Dirk Pitt and NUMA to save the world against evil Japanese politicians who wanted to rule it, and stop it from happening. What a rush!

This was a fantastic classic and early Dirk Pitt NUMA action-adventure. This would thrill you, enthrall you, and excite you like no other. I loved the marine theme with NUMA from Virginia and down to Europe. This would feel like you're on the same adventurous journey with them, especially when you were reeled in from the first page. I cared about Dirk and the NUMA team, when they fought against the nasty Japanese. Good drama, excellent adventure with plenty of high-paced action, and plenty of suspense, too.

The Spy

In Clive Cussler's The Spy,  the third installment of the Isaac Bell series by Clive Cussler, this was set in 1908, when Isaac Bell was looking for a spy, who was targeting and killing people, when someone murdered Arthur Langner. It had set him off to find out who's who and who told the truth, coast to coast on a variety of naval ships. There was a lot of drama and action sequences to the very end, when it was now up to Bell to apprehend the bad guys, and save the day. Another great action adventure/historical fiction mix for a enjoyable read.

This was another fun read to go back in time for another adventure. I loved how it centered on two spies this time around. I'm still a big fan of Isaac Bell and his Pinkerton Detective clan. I did feel bad for Langner and loved the navy ship adventure. The cross-genre of a historical action-adventure series worked well for me. I did care about Isaac too and Marion as well. Great drama, plenty of action and adventurous scenes, with plenty of dangerous intrigue, too.

Ready to go after the spy? Check it out this weekend!

The Silent Sea

In The Silent Sea, the 7th book in the Oregon Files series by Clive Cussler, Juan Cabrillo and his crew wee after another ship from our history, way back in World War II. They didn't expect to come across something that might cause them trouble--this time they chased the remnants of a satellite from NASA. Only they were after Argentinian soldiers, who were illegally drilling in Antartica, and uncovered an ancient curse from 500 years ago. Another compelling quick action-adventure on the high seas and abroad. Lots of drama and action for a great page-turner.

This had a lot of drama on the sea and below the surface. I loved how they explored South America and went down to the Arctic Circle to Antarctica. Excellent scenery to keep you captivated all day long with this fascinating read. I did care about Juan and his crew, when they dealt with those soldiers and the ancient Chinese curse, too. I loved their knowledge of shipwrecks and other sea-faring vessels as well. Great action, tons of adventure on the water with intrigue, mystery and lots of surprising twists.

The Wrecker

In the 2nd installment of the Isaac Bell historical fiction/action-adventure series by Clive Cussler, The Wrecker, Issac Bell returned in another fantastic historical action-adventure. This time, he was up against the Wrecker, who've destroyed trains and wrecked railroad facilities across the country for no reason at all. The South Pacific Railroad President, Osgood Hennessy, had plans to finish the railroad by winter and hired Isaac Bell.. If the railroad isn't completed in time, Hennessy would lose funding and his company would be destroyed. But with the Wrecker who had plans of sabotaging the railroad, that was when Isaac Bell and his team came in to stop him in a race against time.

This was a great break from the modern-day action-adventure of the many NUMA series. I love the cross-genre of historical fiction and action-adventure for this as well. I found Isaac Bell a fantastic lead character for this on-going series.  I also love the race against time theme for this one, when it dealt with railroads. I also loved the nature of espionage and sabotage, too. I did care about Isaac and Hennessy, because they dealt with a sabotaging maniac. I loved the time period of the 1900s and the West Coast, too. Great historical drama, plenty of fantastic action, intense adventure and lots of intrigue that was packed into this novel.

Treasure of Khan

If you like action-adventure, then you'll love another great novel in the Dirk Pitt NUMA series. It has all the good ingredients for an expedient read. Plenty to feast your eyes on too. It deals with a lost and ancient treasure and oil drilling for gasoline. It's set in Hawaii and Mongolia, with a little bit in Russian waters. A little hint of romance and intrigue and lots of drama, suspense, and excitement, all through the novel. You'll enjoy it. Prepare to be shocked and awe with this thrill ride.

Medusa

In the 8th installment of Clive Cussler's Kurt Austen NUMA series, Medusa, this action-adventure took us on a new journey with Kurt Austen. This time around, this dealt with a special type of jellyfish called Blue Medusa that saves people's lives. This took Kurt to China and to the Micronesia Islands from the USA, when he discovered about a top secret U.S. government special biomedical research lab, when the jellyfish suddenly disappeared. At the same, off Bermuda, a bathysphere is attacked by an underwater vehicle and left helpless. Now it was up to Kurt to link the two events together to stop a Chinese criminal organization from unleashing a pandemic to the world, when millions of lives were at stake.

I loved how this action-adventure dealt with the biomedical field to have medical thriller elements. I loved the dual locations of Bermuda and Micronesia Islands for this novel as well. I cared about Kurt and Zavala, when they tackled a crazy maniac, too. I also cared about the whole planet, since everyone was a stack. This would make you take a deep breath and let out a sigh of relief, a couple of times in this novel. This would take you in a fun ride as well from above and below the water. Great suspense, nice dramatic action with plenty of adventure, and lots of intrigue for sure.
