Early Dawn

In Catherine Anderson's Early Dawn, the 4th installment in the Coulters Historical romance series, this beautiful romance is so well-written and brought tears to my eyes. In the late 1880s, Matthew Coulter lost his wife and his unborn child, when he nearly lost his life from battling the Sebastian brothers. He vowed revenge for his late wife's death, no matter how long it would take. In 1890, Eden Saxton rides the train to No Name Colorado with her mother, escaping from a scandal on her lineage, and dealing with a broken engagement. Along the way, the train gets held up by the Sebastian gang and takes her for hostage... later, they would have their way with her and sell her over the border. Matthew Coulter comes to the train robbery and follows their path to the camp to rescue Eden. From there, they both escape them in the wild west and find a brewing connection together, both holding onto the past. During the past month or so, they dealt with dangers from the wilderness and surviving the elements, when a growing romance sparks between them that's hotter than a campfire. First later, then lovers, their passion heats up while Matthew's vow to seek revenge stands in the way for new romance. In the end, will they let go of the past or start living life for the future together?

It's been so long since I've read a book from Catherine Anderson. And this was a wonderful love story between Eden and Paxton and how love conquers all. I cared for Matthew who had a big chip on his shoulder and who risked his life and life to protect Eden's safety, even later he opened his heart to tell her how he felt about her. I cared for Eden who've been dealt with one too many blows and how she shot a gun to kill snakes and the bad guys.  I could see how wonderful they were meant to be together with a heart-warming and delicious happy ending. I loved the dual locations of the Colorado territory and Oregon for this epic scenic settings for the time period. The theme is to let go of the past and be open to the future for love and life.

If you love enchanted historical romances with tons of non-stop action, plenty of suspense, lots of romance, and a scoop of drama, you'll fall in love with Early Dawn.

RomeAntically Challenged

In Marina Adair's RomeAntically Challenged, the first installment in the When in Rome Contemporary romance series, this delightful new series will sweep you off your feet and leave you in stitches. For Annie Walsh, she wanted a fresh new start after her ex-fiancĂ© ditched her before their wedding and found the "one" for him. She traveled to Rome, Rhode Island, a small town as a traveling Physician's Assistant to look for a new place and deal with a broken heart. There, she founds a place to rent with as she temporary stayed there. But during one night, she ran into Emmitt Bradley, a world-renowned photojournalist who returned from his trip to China, no less. They didn't start off in the wrong foot, when she ended up as his room mate in his house. From there, they've made a temporary arrangement as roomies. Annie, who was born in Vietnamese and adopted by American parents, wants to fit in with the other Vietnamese community in Rome. Other than her friends Lynn and Beckett, she was the new girl in town. As for Emmitt, while he's dealing with injuries from a building collapse, he wants to connect to his daughter Paisley and fit into her life. Together, the magic blossoms and the sparks fly between them when they work together to deal with their issues. They discover they were meant to be together and found each other in the end.

This was a charming new series from Marina Adair. I love all of her work. I did care for Annie's story on how she bumped into finding her way in Rome and finding love with Emmitt when she least expected it. I did like that she was diverse and different to see in contemporary romance novels. I also cared for Emmitt, who wanted Paisley to love him and to heal from his own injuries she suffered from the factory collapse in China. He did bring out the best in her and made me laugh a few times when they exchanged texts and sticky note messages.  I did love the imaginary settings for Rome, RI, for the visionary scenic locations.  The themes are families comes is different forms and find your own community to belong to.

If you love an enjoyable contemporary romance with hints of humor,  non-stop action, hints of drama, sparks of romance, you'll get a kick out of RomeAntically Challenged too.

Dead Woman Crossing

In J.R. Adler's Dead Woman Crossing, the first installment in the Detective Kimberly King crime thriller series, this debut is awesome and twisted with every twisted turn to keep you in suspense. Kimberly King wanted a fresh start when she moved from NYC to Dead Woman Crossing, Oklahoma, with her baby daughter Jessica. In Dead Woman Crossing, this small town is aptly named for its first murder of a young pregnant woman who was decapitated and shot, a century ago. While she had gotten settled in her step-father's farm, she'd noticed changes in her mother's appearance and how aloof and cold her step-father had been to her when she first arrived. But things took a dark turn for the worse, when someone was found murdered the same way as DWC's first murder. Kimberly knew this person and had befriended her before her untimely death. To discover the truth behind this murder, she would have to dig deeper to find the answers and shake things up in that small town, even if all roads lead her close to home in a shocking ending.

This was a compelling debut to kick off this crime thriller series. I did care for Kimberly on how she managed her new job with the DWC PD as the only female on deck. I loved her take-charge attitude and tenacity to get things done while she dealt with such hardships as being a single mother and losing a friend to a brutal murder in NYC. I loved the dark history behind Dead Woman Crossing's past and how rural this small town is in Oklahoma. It had such ambiance for the scenic settings in this location.  I could see a possible love interest connection between her and Sheriff Sam Walker for future novels. The theme is be careful of keeping secrets in a small-town, or it'll find its way back to you.

If you love ground-breaking crime thrillers with non-stop action, plenty of suspense, lots of drama, and heart-pounding intrigue to keep you hooked from start to finish, Dead Woman Crossing is the perfect book for you to read this winter.

Needled to Death

In Maggie Sefton's Needled to Death, the 2nd installment in the Knitting Mystery cozy mystery series, this crafty cozy will keep you suspense without getting you tangled up in knots. It all started for Kelly Flynn as she'd gotten the hang of knitting a sweater, she'd been invited to visit Vickie Claymore's alpaca form by the canyon. But when she'd gotten there, it was too late--she discovered her friend's dead body and reported it in. She broke the news to her knitting circle friends as she called Vickie's daughter Debbie. While her friend's death was under investigation, she learned a lot about alpaca breeding and how to herb livestock on her Wyoming farm. She helped Debbie deal with her late mother's account and unearthed some interesting revelations that shed some dark light into who wanted Vickie dead. But when Debbie had an untimely death due to a massive asthma attack, Kelly had to dig deeper to find out who had killed not one but two people for a selfless careless violent act. It's up to Kelly to get down to the truth before it would be too late and go unnoticed with a gripping ending.

This was another fantastic gripping cozy mystery in the series. I continued to care for Kelly who had dealt with Carl's golf ball issues and contemplating moving to Colorado from DC. She also had to deal with inheriting her late aunt's Wyoming ranch and solving two murders. It was a lot to tackle while she handled with her own accounting work at the solve time. I loved the dual locations of Wyoming and Colorado, which both had amazing scenic settings to depict the storyline. The theme of the story is don't let greed get the best of you by gambling and seek help when you can.

If you love great crafty cozies to knit or purl with heart-stopping drama, plenty of good suspense, lots of non-stop action, and some sharp twists and turns, you'll enjoy Needled to Death today.
