Mystic

In Cheryl Brooks's Mystic, the 2nd installment in the Cat Star Legacy paranormal romance, this series is so out-of-this-world, it would send you out-of-orbit and a mesmerizing thrill ride. For Sula, she's an Indian human from earth who mourned her lover's death on the planet Ecos. While she was looking for answers in a cave, she ended up caught in the snare of a condor's nest. That's when she met Aidan Banadånsk, a blonde alien male who came to her rescue in his starship. From there, he took her away and tended her to her medical needs in his home planet. She had met other alien friends like Abuti and Qinta, who became her friend, and her latest ally. But the attraction between them were extraordinary when they made love for the first time, and Aidan became weirded out from it. Besides his good looks, he could fly, have feline eyes and a pair of fangs, and can predict the future, though his wordly heritage was questionable. With the help of her new alien friends, they discover who ran to kill her and scourge her home planet from a fatal disease. The truth might be closer than she ever thought and had hit home, when they come up a plan to save the galaxy before they can explore their outerwordly love for each other in a shocking climax.

This was a fascinating and imaginative paranormal romance series. I love the innovative and superlative futuristic feeling of this galaxy with new planets and friendly--and sexy--aliens. I did care for Sula and how she remained the only humans survivor on the planet to discover new places and explore new ideas this things. You can picture yourself in that star ship and travel across the galaxy to see the stars. I also thought Aidan was an enchanted alien who had some mystical powers of his own and a champion for others to come to her rescue. I also thought the cast of characters were appealing and mesmerizing too. This would take you into new heights and visionary sensations with non-stop action, heart-stopping drama, earthly love and romance, and a spark of intriguing twists.

The Survivor

In Gregg Hurwitz's The Survivor, this thriller would hook you on the first page on this intense fast-paced roller coaster ride that would leave you at the edge of your seat. For Nate Overbay, he was a former Vet dealing with a severe case of PTSD and dying slowly from ALS disease. On the day he contemplated suicide, a bank robbery took place down below. So Nate became a hero and averted their plans from going further. He didn't want special attention from the press as he worked for the LAPD as a Crisis Responding Officer for families. But he haven't forgotten the bone-chilling message from the last man standing from the robbery that his life would be in peril. Later he's kidnapped from Pavlo, the leader of the Ukranian mob, who have a death wish for him. Since he foiled their bank robbery plans, he needed him to grab something from a safety deposit vault and report to him in three days. Although Nate was estranged from his wife and daughter, he needed to set things right with them and explain the dire situation with them, including revealing the news that he was dying and don't have much time to life. Haunted by his late partner from the war's ghost, it was up to Nate to protect his family and find out what's the connection on a special list of names. If he could get them to time, he would be a hero for his family and put his life on his line one last time with an explosive ending.

This was a spine-tingling thriller for sure. I did care for Nate who was dealt with a lot in his final days and hours. I was happy that he had found peace and solace with his family before his time ran out. I'm glad he made amends and make a hero that they would be proud of. I did care for Janie and Cielle, who did fine without him, but did patch things up with them as he protected them the best he could from danger.  I did love the LA intense settings and the gripping location shots from all over California for this thriller. This would make you want to hold your breath and feel exhausted in the end with non-stop action, suspense, drama, and plenty of mystery right to the end.

The Current

In Tim Johnston's The Current, this gripping novel will sweep you off your feet and have you carried away with the rip tide. It all started for Caroline Price and Audrey Sutter, two friends who ended up in a near-fatal car accident near the river in a small town in Minnesota. Two state troopers had found Audrey half-frozen and alive, while her friend Caroline drowned from the icy water. When word had came about, it reminded Gordon Burke of a similar crime that happened a decade ago to his own daughter. While the police had never found the culprits for that crime, it was up to Audrey to remember what happened to her and the attack on her and friend. As she recovered from her injuries, she talked to Gordon Burke and to the sheriffs on the past case. After her father passed away, she wanted to carry on with his wishes to solve the mystery and to pick up the pieces to that unsolved crime that had the same end result. Though both cases were similar in nature, she had uncovered a sniff of police corruption and a scandal that headed straight to Iowa. With a bit of coercion to arrest the right culprit, she had to fend for herself and make justice be served for Holly and Caroline.

This was a captivating and twisted thriller with a dark and sinister plot. I did care for Audrey who had become a victim and a heroine at the same time. I did feel sad for her that she had lost her father and had to carry on by living alone. I did feel bad for Gordon who lost his daughter and for Marky Young, who had to wonder what happened to his brother Danny.  I did like the dual locations of Minnesota and Iowa for these bone-chilling scenic settings from the northwest to the Midwest and had a wonderful centric winter theme. This would keep you in suspense in every page to find out what happened to Holly and Audrey and Caroline with non-stop action, plenty of drama, and tons of icy tendrils of mystery.

Untraceable

In Laura Griffin's Untraceable, the first installment in the Tracers romantic suspense trilogy series, this novel is so packed with red-hot suspense and a sizzling story line. It all started for Alex Lovell, when someone came into her office and asked for her services to find Melanie Coghan, who was one of her clients. As a PI, she knew she had put her into hiding in a safe house from an abusive husband. But when she turned up missing at the scene of her home, she had her suspicions that her husband Craig had something to do with it. And that's when she ran into Nathan Devereaux, an Austin PD detective at the crime scene. They had a chemistry together and they needed to work together to find Melanie. Along the way, they ran into a couple of obstacles including Nathan's ex-wife, an ADA, and a couple of corrupted cops who were in too deep with the cartels. The same sizzling chemistry was there between them in the heat of the moment when Melanie turned up alive and the danger surrounded them. When they thought they had figured it out, they had to fight for their lives in an explosive ending that would leave you senseless and numb all over.

This was an excellent romantic suspense novel that would keep you at the edge of your seat. I cared for Alex who were in the thick of things and maybe way over her head to help her clients. I think the job at the Delphi Center would be a huge asset for her. I also cared for Nathan who was charming and would do anything to protect Alex within the law. I did feel bad for Melanie, who had been through a lot to stay alive, and to have a fresh start. I loved the dual locations of Austin Texas and New Orleans that had compelling and mesmerizing scenic settings. This would keep you at the edge of your seat with non-stop action, plenty of red-hot suspense, tons of drama, and lots of romance to make you swoon.

Hot Fudge Murder

In Cynthia Baxter's Hot Fudge Murder, the 2nd installment in the Lickety Splits culinary cozy mystery series, this delightful story had whipped out all the ingredients for a good mystery: drama, suspense,  a hint of romance, and a compelling story line. For Kate McKay, she runs the Lickety Splits ice cream shop in the Hudson Valley area in New York. When her shop was asked to be invited to cater an event from Omar DeVane, a well-known fashion designer, she was more than happy to oblige. But behind the scenes, she overheard heated voices in Omar's fashion and had gotten to know more about his inner circle of friends and co-workers. When he was later found strangled by a necktie, Kate was in the neck of things to discover who murdered him and why. Meanwhile, she had to deal with things at home like with her Grandmother's secret activities, her niece's love life, and to figure out her own between her former boyfriend Jake and Brody, the new guy in town who ran an adventure tour shop next door. Talk about a twisted love triangle. As Kate gets closer to learn the truth about who killed Omar, it brought her closer to danger when she had to fend for herself to solve the puzzle.

This was a thrilling treat to read something new from Cynthia Baxter. It had been a long while since I've read any of her books. I did care for Kate and how she run a successful ice cream shop with exotic and unbelievable flavor combinations. I did love how she figured out who killed Omar and why and how she cared for her niece Emma. She did end up in a pickle when she has two men fawn over her. I did love the Hudson Valley area for the central location and scenic settings around that part of town. This cozy has a scoop of mystery, a dollop of suspense, a sprinkle of romance, and a dash of non-stop dramatic action on every page.

Mistletoe in Texas

In Kari Lynn Dell's Mistletoe in Texas, the 5th installment in the Texas Rodeo contemporary western romance series, this warm-hearted tale would enlighten you for the holidays. For Grace McKenna, she had loved Hank Brookman ever since she was a child. She had also lived in her father's shadow as a domineering priest in Earnest, Texas. But when Hank had a tragic misstep during a rodeo match, she had kept a hidden secret from him and her family after their one-night encounter. And when he'd stormed out to head to Montana, she carried the burden alone. She later gave up her daughter for adoption. Now fast forward to three years later, when Grace worked as an athletic trainer at her former high school's basketball team, she had learned that Hank returned for the holidays. As for Hank, he had always loved Grace and had a troubled relationship with his father and with his own sister Melanie. After he had learned about his accident, he returned home to help pitch in to help out with the ranch. Then he ran into Grace. During the holiday season, they both dealt with the past and tried to make things right when they had fallen for each other. They also mended hearts and their relationships with their family to have a fresh new start. But when things get serious between them, they had to reevaluate their feelings to make the most of it in the future.

This was a beautiful and charming Western and Christmas contemporary romance. I did care for Grace and how she was dealt with a strict father in her family's fractured household.  I did care for her on what she had to do with her daughter at the time---maybe she would be ready to take the next step to meet her. I also liked how she learned how to rope and made her own name as an athletic trainer. I did care for Johnny and Hank Brookman who had done more than mending fences along with their relationship. I did feel that Hank had overcome his inner demons and wanted to start things right with Grace. I did love the small-town community in Earnest Texas from the ranches to the rodeos and beyond--it had visual and scenic locations and lovely settings. This would charm your heart and feel blessed during the holidays or any season with sparks of romance, hint of drama, a tough of action, and plenty of suspense.

The Negotiator

In Brendan DuBois's The Negotiator, this compelling tale is so intense and a bit dark to make your head spin. For the Negotiator, it all started with a negotiation with a stolen painting.  After they made the deal, things had went wrong with his partner named Clarence Briggs wound up dead by a deadly couple. For this nameless Negotiator, he would do anything to seek revenge for his partner's death. Even if it lead him all the way to Bellow Falls Vermont, where he started to track them down to a hotel. And when things went sour, he had to survive by killing the female accomplice. Along the way, he met a real estate agent down on his luck, a BFPD detective who was on the case, and Clarence's widow to give her the bad news. As he tried to make some sense of things, the dangerous path to find his partner's killer had gotten dark and bloody; and when things went awry, he would have to barter and bargain for his life and to save one hostage for another in a shocking ending.

This was a great fast-paced and well-written thriller. This had so many shocking twists and turns on every surprising chapter and pace. I did care for the Negotiator who had lost his partner and how he had sought revenge for his death. I did wish he would give us a hint of his name even in the end.  I did feel bad for Carla and Wanda who had lost someone they loved. I did love the dual locations of Boston and Bellow Falls Vermont to paint the picturesque New England settings with gripping scenes. This would have you at the edge of the seat with non-stop action, intense drama, explosive suspense and a lot of sparks of mystery.

Fan the Flames

In Katie Ruggle's Fan the Flames, the 2nd installment in the Search and Rescue romantic suspense series, get ready to turn down the heat by dousing yourself with a tall glass of water. For Rory Sorenson, she had a huge crush on Ian Walsh for the longest time. She also has her own gun shop and signed up to be a volunteer firefighter with Ian's Fire Department. But things had gotten rough for her when someone had broken into her gun shop to steal a gun. And when Ian came to her rescue, in the name of self-defense, he had shot a fellow Motorcycle Club member from the Riders gang. Ever since then, things had gotten downhill as Rory had dealt with threats from the King family members. She had put her life on the line when she learned how to douse fires and rescue people in difficult situations during the night shift.  But her feelings for Ian were red-hot, when he showed her the ropes of being a fire fighter; but when he's arrested for the murder of a fellow MC member, Rory would do anything to set him free. And when she does, she dealt with more posing threats from the King brothers and knows what it feels like to be the brunt of an explosion when her life depended on it.

This was an explosive and mind-blowing romantic suspense novel. I loved the small town in Colorado that was picturesque and vivid with the details of Simpson and the Rocky Mountains behind it. I cared for Rory who had to deal with a lot as an only child and how she made herself stronger to the woman today by fighting fires and arming herself with a gun. I also cared for Ian who's a passionate man who loves Rory and his job too--even if he had gotten himself hurt in the process.  I loved how everyone looked out for each other in that fire department too. This would make you want to cool down after a slow burn and fan yourself for intense non-stop action, intense romance, sizzling suspense, and plenty of drama on every page.
