Dare to Lie

In Jen McLaughlin's Dare to Lie, the third installment in the Sons of Steel Row contemporary romance series, this novel would make you hold onto your seat belts and rev those engines. Told in the POVs of Scotty Donahue and Skylar Daniels, we've got an inside look on how they met and what obstacles they've endured to be together. For Scotty, he worked undercover as an DEA agent and posed as a gang member of the Sons of Steel Row. He would do anything to protect his brother and kept his secret alive. When the gang leader Tate Daniels asked him to step in for him for his sister's charity auction for school, he would do anything to oblige. And when Skylar won the bid, it would more than love for first sight for the two of them. Though Tate warned him not to touch her, they couldn't help themselves, when they had a sparking chemistry together. While he protected Skylar from the Bitter Hill rival gang, they planned the next strategic attack on them. And when Scotty got hurt from an attack at her apartment, things came to a head, when their secret came out. In order to protect her and himself, he had to break it off with her from Tate's orders. And for the two of them, it had tore their worlds apart, while they love each other so much. During another attack that hospitalized Scotty, Skylar learned the truth of their break-up and became worried about what her brother would do if he found out the truth. And that would put both Scotty and his informant friend Chris into a dangerous position in order he could have her happy ending with her.

This was a great installment in the series with action-packed scenes in every chapter. I loved that both Scotty and Skylar had red hair--something we don't see much in any romance novel now. I'm pretty fond of strawberry blonde heroines myself. I loved the nitty-gritty aspects of what a DEA agent does even for undercover work. I instantly cared for Scotty and what he do to do for his job and to protect the people he cared and loved the most. I did love Skylar's independent flair to save lives as a medical student and how she remained close to her brother Tate, no matter what he put them through.  I did like the concept of pitting street gangs on the streets in an all-out war, which is true to form what happens in real life everyday. This romance would make you curl your toes, fan yourself, take a big breath and sigh, and hooked on this chemical feeling throughout the novel with non-stop drama, red-hot romance, intrigue and plenty of action along the way.

Will you dare to lie and protect yourself today?
