Espresso Shot

 In Cleo Coyle's Espresso Shot, the 7th installment in the Coffeehouse Culinary Cozy Mystery series, this newest tale would whet your appetite with a fine cup of java. It all started the week of Clare's ex-husband wedding preparations to Breeanne Soummer in New York City, when a look-a-like stripper ended up shot outside the bachelor party--the same party Clare and Matt witnessed in cold blood. That's when the NYPD came in and informed them that her name was Hazel Boggs. While Clare dealt with Bridezilla herself with the wedding details, it was up to Clare to do some snooping on who wanted Breeanne dead and why. She started from her office and worked her way into her personal life when more attacks and problems arose like woodwork. She sifted through the truth for the answers like gold, while her relationship to Detective Mike Quinn steamed up in her private life. As she handed the intricate details for Breeanne's reception, she became closer to danger when she discovered the cold-blooded truth that Breeanne wasn't the main target, but her ex was for a shocking reason, before they could say "I do" in a twisted ending.

I always enjoyed Cleo Coyle culinary cozy mysteries that featured a coffee house for a theme. I did care for Clare who had gotten into the thick of solving another mystery, running a business, and trying to keep it together with her love for Mike. I loved how she took charge and lived large to get down to the heart of the matter in a timely manner. I also loved seeing Joy, her daughter, make a welcoming appearance in the series too. Her ex-mother-in-law Madame Allegro is always a hoot. I loved the NYC backdrop from the Village Blend and elsewhere with pitch perfect scenic locations. And the coffee recipes are always to do for too.  The theme of the story is your past actions might lead to present and future consequences.

If you love a heart-warming culinary cozy with a spark of romance, a scoop of brewed action, a heap of mystery and intrigue with hot non-stop action, Espresso Shot is the one for you!

Through the Grinder

In the second installment of Cleo Coyle's Coffeehouse Mystery culinary cozy series, Through the Grinder, this was one of the most intense and wild mysteries yet to date. For Clare Cosi, the joint was jumping in the Village Blend Coffeehouse with coffee enthusiasts. But someone had been bumping off her female customers by "pushing" them to their death. When Joy wanted to try online dating, Clare decided to join her and keep an eye on her prospects. From there, she met all sorts of people, including a possible new love interest, and a crazy maniac. When Mike Quinn had his eye on him as a suspect, it was up to Clare and Matteo to clear his name and find the real culprit, when the killer had their eye on their daughter and save her life. The ending was a surprising and shocking twist!

This was another terrific culinary cozy in the Coffeehouse Mystery series. I loved the concept of the online dating/speed-dating scene set in New York City. And at the coffeehouse, it was a perfect place to do it. I didn't like Brooks Newsman. He really gave me the creeps. I loved Clare and Bruce as a couple. But his ex-wife was a jealous nutcase.  I felt the same devastating blow as Clare did it the ending that I don't want to give away. Great drama, great recipes and intense non-stop action for a perfect light read in this storyline for a good mystery.

On What Grounds

 In On What Grounds, the first installment in Cleo Coyle's Coffeehouse Mystery cozy series, Clare Cosi returned to the Coffeehouse she used to own and manage in New York, when she discovered one of her baristas had been assaulted. When the police arrived, she told them her story on how she'd found Anabelle Hart, which they had deemed an "incident." To make matters worse, Clare was out to prove them wrong, when her ex-husbands returned, who was jealous of handsome Detective Michael Quinn, in which Clare was attracted to, a meddling ex-mother-in-law who was matchmaking again, and her daughter Joy's surprise visit with her boyfriend. Plus, there was a secret third party, who wanted to run the Village Blend to the ground. A great new cozy series set in New York with good coffee info and delightful coffee recipes.

This was a terrific new cozy mystery series that featured a coffeehouse with some coffee recipes.  I cared for Clare and could see the chemistry between her and Mike brewing like fresh ground coffee. I also liked her daughter Joy and felt sorrow for poor Anabelle. This would make you mind percolate of some ideas on who wanted to harm Anabelle and run Clare's coffeehouse to the ground. I love the central New York City theme for the location and the Village Blend for the settings. Great drama, excellent non-stop action, and plenty of great intrigue for this powerhouse of a cozy.
