Death at Le Fenice

In Donna Leon's Death at Le Fenice, the first installment in the Commissario Brunetti Italian mystery series, we were taken into the world of the Italian police with interesting new characters. For Guido Brunetti, the Lieutenant of the Italian police, he arrived on his first crime scene at an opera. He discovered the dead body of the German Maestro, Helmut Wellauer, and investigated his past, even in German. Although he was a well-loved maestro, his life wasn't so called musical, when there was a lot of bad harboring secrets Guido discovered, even with his marital life. In the end, he discovered why and how he died by cyanide poisoning with a shocking twist.

This was a great introduction to the Venice mystery series. I cared about Guido and his family and about Clemenza, who harbored such grief. Some characters I didn't care so much. I loved the vast Italian and Argentian locations for the dual scenic settings for this series. This would take you to the world of opera and behind the scenes with great story-telling and grip you by the reins. Great drama, non-stop action and suspense and lots of intense intrigue.

Fatal Remedies

In Donna Leon's Fatal Remedies, the 8th installment in the Guido Brunetti Italian mystery series, this one in another captivating read set in Venice Italy. It all first started out with a phone call, that his own Paola was caught creating graffiti and arrested for vandalism. Thus for, it created a crisis at his own household, when he was also under increasing pressure at work on a robbery case, which might have a connection to the mob and linked to a suspicious death. His superiors wanted results with quick answers fast, while both his professional and personal life clash head on, which might push him over the brink in this gripping mystery.

 This was a fantastic Italian mystery that went straight to the heart of the matter. I cared about Guido and was concerned for Paola, when she was caught in the act. Thus for, I was worried about their marriage. I continued to love the Venetian settings in this series with fantastic Italian locale for the locations. This would hook you on the first page and compel you to read to the end of the book. Great drama, tons of non-stop action and suspense with every turning page of intrigue and mystery.

Friends in High Places

In Donna Leon's Friends in High Places, the 9th book in the Commissario Brunnetti Italian mystery series, we were introduced to another suspenseful mystery in beautiful Italy. It all started when a young bureaucrat visited Guido to investigate the lack of official approval for his apartment building, his first impression was on who he knows to bring pressure on that government department. But when he rung him at work and sounded scared, he was late found dead when he had fallen from some scaffolding, someone was strangely going that has far more greater implications than the fate of his apartment building.


 This was another great Guido Brunetti Italian mystery in the series. I continued to love the vast and scenic beautiful settings and locations in Venice Italy with those vivid descriptions. I also cared about Guido and what he might find that dealt with some dirty politicians. I became curious on the death of the young bureaucrat and how far would that trail of politics would go. This would make you speechless and drop your jaw down to the ground.  Great drama, suspense, intrigue and tons of mystery along with the way with non-stop action.
