Special review: Dead Sleep from February 2009

In Greg Iles's Dead Sleep, the third installment in the Mississippi series, he had delivered to send chills up and down our spine. For photojournalist Jordan Glass, she discovered the "Sleeping Women" painting series morbidly disturbing, since it showcased dead and not sleeping women. One of them might be her own--or of her missing twin sister. At the urging of the FBI, Jordan becomes the hunter and the hunted for the search of this anonymous artist and obsessed killer, who knew more about her family than she's prepared to face.


This was another bone-chilling thriller that would leave you speechless, right until it was over. I cared about Jordan and became curious on the paintings myself. The location and settings of Mississippi was perfect to showcase a dark twisted and perhaps perverted side of art. This would take you in for a disturbing wild ride with non-stop action, drama, suspense, and tons of mystery. 

Blood Memory

In Greg Iles's Blood Memory, the 5th installment of the Mississippi thriller series, Greg Iles thrilled us and chilled us with some horrific elements in this novel. For Cat Ferry, a forensic odontologist, she had a panic attack at a crime scene, when a serial killer had targeted a male with bite marks. That had taken her back to time to her past, and back to her home in Natchez Mississippi, when she experienced the haunted memory of her father's murder. From there, she pieced together on the past and how a serial killer wanted to speak to her. With her life on her line, she learned the dangerous truth about her hidden family secrets and what made her what she is today on shaky ground, with some damning and shocking consequences to shock her all in the end.

This was a mind-blowing and compelling thriller from Greg Iles. This would completely blow your mind and chill you to your core. I cared about Cat and Sean's relationship and didn't like her grandfather and Billy Neal. Malik creeped me out to some extent. I loved the dual locations of Natchez and New Orleans, though De Salle Island was something else altogether, like a family filled of secrets. This continued to reel me in like a big fish and had me hooked and enthralled on every single page. Great drama with plenty of non-stop action, suspense, mystery and intrigue, all wrapped up into this package.

24 Hours

In Greg Iles's  24 Hours, the 2nd installment in the Mississippi thriller series, hold onto your hats and your seats. This took place in over 24 hours in real time action. It started off with the perfect kidnapping-for-ransom crime pulled off by a criminal mastermind. For four years, it had never failed, until the fifth time. When Will and Karen Jennings's little girl Abby was kidnapped, the clock started there. And this fifth kidnapping was different, except for the reason that Abby's Diabetic. And in this novel, we see what was inside the minds of Will, Karen, Abby, Joe Hickey and Huey in rapid-fact action. What will you do in 24 hours to save the ones you love? This novel begged the question with twists and turns, while the clock tick-tocked away. Hold your breath!


This was another compelling thriller from Greg Iles. I immediately cared for Will, Karen and Abby and didn't like Joe Hickey one bit. Huey was okay. I liked the Natchez Tennessee location and the vast settings from start to finish. This would hook you in and take you for a wild thrill ride, more like an emotional roller coaster ride. Great drama, good intense action, suspense, intrigue and a hint of mystery.

True Evil

In Greg Iles's True Evil, he delivered us another compelling thriller from him. Set in Mississippi,  before FBI Agent Alex Morse's sister Grace died from a strange stroke, she informed Alex that her husband was responsible for it, and set off a chain reaction of events. After she informed Dr. Chris Shepard that his wife was cheating on him and wanted him dead, he didn't believe her... until later. That's until there was proof of her affair and her connection to her divorce lawyer and his accomplice, who killed people with cancer. When Chris was injected with it, he believed how his wife could be cruel. It was now up to Alex and Chris to stop them before it was too late for them. What an action packed thrill ride!

This was another compelling thriller from the master of suspense himself. I loved the Mississippi settings for the location of this novel. I cared about Chris and Alex and how it brought them together to face an unknown and unlikely evil like no other. This had sent chills down my spine and left me cold in the end, shaking my head. Great drama, good action, suspense, intrigue and mystery!

Third Degree

In Greg Iles's Third Degree, he gave us another scintillating thriller that would chill you to the core. We meet with Laurel Shields, a special education teacher and mother of two, who found out she was  pregnant. The question was, she didn't know if it was her husband or her lover from her affair. When she came home from work, her husband was on the rampage and found out the truth, when things went bad to worse, and the shit had hit the fan, when secrets came out of the dark and into the light, when it was s a fight for survival for Laurel and her family. A thrill ride that lasted all day.

This was an excellent thriller that would leave you breathless and cold to the touch. This made me want to read all of his books, stand-alone or serial. I would recommend it, if you haven't read his book before. This was an excellent page-turner that would leave you guessing for more. I cared about Laurel and her plight, while the jury was still out on Warren. I loved the idealistic small town of Athens Point, Mississippi as the central location and settings for this novel. This would wheel you in with great drama, excellent suspense, non-stop action and intrigue.
