In the third installment of Laura Caldwell's Izzy McNeil legal thriller series, Red, White and Dead, Izzy McNeil was on an adventure of her life. Unemployed and looking for work, she always wondered about the mystery of her father's death. Little did she knew, it would take her to Italy to search for answers from her own aunt. The more she discovered the truth behind it and the Camorra mob connection, the more perilous she and her family would be. And in the end, there was an explosive ending that lead her back to home with a big bang! This one would blow you away...sky high!
I loved how this took center stage and away from the legal firm. This made it more personal for Izzy and for her whole family too. I loved the Chicago and Italy locations, especially to the island of Ischia. I didn't like Dez Romano and Ransom who went after Izzy. I was heartbroken to find out the truth and how it unraveled with a bittersweet mob connection. I loved how Theo and Izzy came together and how her brother Charlie had a pivotal secondary role. Plenty of non-stop action with a grand pace and plenty of dramatic suspense as well.

The Dog Park
In the Dog Park, Laura Caldwell told us a beautiful story about two people and the love for their dog via Jess's POV. It all started out for Jess Champlin and Sebastian Hess, once married and now divorced, when she took their dog out to the dog park in part one. When Baxter saved a girl's life, he became a superstar and phenomenon went across the airwaves and social media. He'd been known as "superdog". For Jess a stylist, it helped her branched out into the dogwear business with his collars, while her ex Sebastian didn't want to be in the papers and became secretive, due to his work. For Jess and her ex, they had joint custody of Baxter with timeshare. That's when she met Gavin, a new love interest in her life. In part two, it was about Jess and Baxter's high rise to fame and how Baxter's accident changed everything for all of them--it also created a love triangle between them and her ex. Betrayal and a standstill rocked Jess's world in part three, when it brought her closer to the truth and a much happier ending. A lovely woman's fiction novel and for those who are dog lovers as well.
This book tugged at my heart and my soul. I fell in love with Baxter, who was charming and amazing at the same time. I loved the scenic backdrop of the dog park as well, too. I was saddened, when Jess and Sebastian had grown apart, and when Baxter was hit by a car, and when Sebastian was taken hostage overseas. That left a lump in my throat. As for Gavin, I had a love/hate relationship with him. I was glad when Jess threw him to the curb. In the end, I loved happy endings between Jess and Sebastian. If you love dogs, you'll love this one as well.

Red-Blooded Murder
If you love great thrillers, you'll also love the second installment in the Izzy McNeil series. In Red-Blooded Murder, it picked up six months later from Red Hot Lies. We really have gotten involved into Izzy's world, when she tackled a lot that have been going on in her life. And man, did she have a full plate in this series? We saw Izzy on an emotional roller coaster ride. I really became worried about her, since she became stuck and embroiled into another murder mystery of her own, when she was the center of the attention. Not only that, she juggled relationships and moonlighted in another job. But we watched how close she was to her mom, brother and step-dad. Fast-paced for a great ride.
This was a great continuation of the Izzy McNeil series. Once again, I love the backdrop of Chicago for this storyline. The tension between Izzy and Sam was tight and tough. I didn't care for much for the second murder she encountered that placed her in the spotlight. I hated for Izzy to lose another friend when she was murdered. But I liked how she teamed up to moonlight with Mayburn. Plenty of good drama and suspense in this legal thriller.

Red Hot Lies
If you love great legal thrillers, you'll enjoy Red Hot Lies by Laura Caldwell, the first book in the Izzy McNeil Thriller series. This was a new one to enjoy. Set in Chicago, Izzy McNeil's life was turned upside down in the. Poor Izzy McNeil. While planning her wedding, her boss was murdered and her fiancé was on the run, accused of stealing money. Meanwhile her life fell apart by rumors, the police and the FBI continued to stalk her. When people push comes to shove, lies showed up all over the place, when she finally heard from him. She teamed up with PI John Mayburn, while she helped him out with his own case, when her closest friend fell in love with her. Things got out of control, when she finally tracked her fiancé down and discovered the truth as shocking secrets exploded in the end at Panama. This was a great new legal thriller series to enjoy. Red Hot Lies was red hot for sure!
This legal thriller debut would send you on a wild roller coaster ride. We do get to know more about Izzy and her life. We care about her and her law career. I did feel bad about her, since she sorta lost her dad and now her fiancé disappeared. She ran into some nefarious characters that might be mob-related. That made me worried about her. There was so many twist and turns here. I loved Izzy's boldness and her relationship with Mayburn. I didn't like the sneaky mob connection. But the picturesque Chicago was so fine.
