On the Other Side of the Door

In Nicci French's The Other Side of the Door, this chilling novel of suspense will you leave you breathless in every turned page. It all started for Bonnie Graham, a high school music teacher, who discovered a dead body at the other side of her friend's flat's door. Like Rena Olsen's The Girl Before, it's platformed with scenes of what events happened before the discovery and what happened afterwards. At first, Bonnie and her friend, Sonia, were the ones that discovered the dead body of Hayden Booth, a star musician who happened to join their band for an one-time-only event for her friend Danielle's wedding. When he first appeared on the scene to rehearse with them, tensions were so high, it could be cut with a knife. While Bonnie was seeing Neal, she grew attracted to him. But when Hayden got violent with her, things had come to a head. After Bonnie and Sonia disposed of the body and the evidence with it, they did the best to cover up their tracks. But when he was reported missing to the police, it complicated things and made things ten times worse. Everyone had a reason to hate him for one reason or another as secret and lies unraveled like a ball of yarn. And while the police questioned her, it made her nervous as she suspected one person or another who had killed him with a cold-blooded killer. Later on, she figured it out and came head to head to someone she was close to in an ear-splitting explosive climax at how things ended and how things started when she opened the door.

This was a phenomenal and bone-chilling suspenseful novel that would keep you at the edge of your seat. I did care for Bonnie and how she had gotten entangled into a deadly mess of secrets and lies and a lot of backstabbing. I did think she was a better match for Neal than for Amos, though Hayden was rough around the edges and a bit troublesome with a violent and shady past. I was suspicious of Sonia in more ways than one, which left me undecided about her true nature throughout the novel. I did love the glorious and vast locations throughout London and the other towns nearby that painted a vivid scene for this gripping novel. This would reel you in and have you hooked on the first page that make you want you to read more with non-stop action, intense drama, explosive suspense, and a lot of suspicious mysteries from start to finish.

Blue Monday

Best-selling authors Nicci French was back with a vengeance and stepped away from her usual stand alone novels. Now they've introduced you to the Frieda Klein series. In Blue Monday, the first book in the Frieda Klein series, it all started with a disappearance of Joanna Vine. Now fast-forward to twenty-two years later, Frieda Klein was a psychotherapist in London. We saw things from her eyes on her relationship with Sandy, her relations with her sister-in-law and niece, and how she worked with the police on a real difficult case. Alan Dekker was her newest client who'd been having unusual dreams. And when there was a kidnapping, the images from Alan's dreams were most uncanny and similar to the missing boy. She decided to dig deep into his past and discovered a shocking twist. The closer she was to the truth, the more in danger she would be. There was a lot of twists and turns right to the end. What a great debut to this series. You'll be rooting for Frieda in no time.

This was a nice gripping new thriller from Nicci French. I did feel bad for Joanna Vine's family and for Frieda as well. I liked how she  had related to her superiors and to her family. Alan Dekker intrigued me in some parts.  I loved the central London location for the series and the depicted scenic settings as well. This sent me bone-chilling numbness towards the end that you leave you breathless and stunned, even right after I closed the book. Great drama, plenty of heart-breaking suspense and action, and lot of intrigue for this mystery.

Land of the Living

If you love great psychological thrillers, you'll enjoy Land of the Living from Nicci French. Abbie Deveraux had been kidnapped for two weeks by a mad man, who was also tired and held hostage in a cold place. When she escaped, it was a cry for help, when she lost two weeks of the time. She didn't remember what happened before it, when no one believed her story, and thought she was delusional. Now she was picking up the pieces of her life, when she discovered the news about new boyfriend and then a missing flatmate. And it was up to her to find out the answers, before he went after her again. What a great psychological suspense.

This was a gripping psychological thriller that would leave you at the edge of your seat. I did love the central London location throughout the novel. I did feel real bad for Abbie, when she had escaped from this terrible ordeal and no one believed her. But she was a tough and strong determined young woman to prove then wrong. This would leave you speechless and shaking all over in the end. Great drama, plenty of intense suspense and action, and a great mini mystery all the way through to the end.

Losing You

In Nicci French's  Losing You, this thriller was a helluva of a whopper, when it took place in one day in Sandling Island, England. In a nutshell, Nina Landry was a single mother, who was about to go on holiday in Florida, after her daughter Charlotte set her up with a surprise 40th birthday party. When her daughter didn't turn up, she panicked and wanted to find her, while she learned secrets on her daughter's life and accused everybody of keeping secrets from her. In the end, she received the shock at the end of the day, when she fought for her life, when someone she trusted betrayed her. I don't want to give away the closing ending.

In this gripping thriller, I did feel so terrible and bad for Nina and for Charlotte. I hated that it was from one bad surprise to another. It wasn't what she expected, even for her birthday. I loved the Sandling Island location for this storyline. It  made it sound so ideal. This would shock you and leave you shaking in the end.  Great drama, plenty of suspense and intrigue, and lots of shocking twists that were filled with mystery in the way.
