C is for Corpse

In Sue Grafton's C is for Corpse, the third installment in the Kinsey Millhone mystery series, this caper has some twists and turns with a shocking ending. When Kinsey met Bobby Callahan at the gym to do rehab for her wrist, he hired her to work on the case. Other than he's rich, he's been injured in a near-fatal car crash and believes someone's after him. She agrees to sign on and learns more about Bobby's life, including knowing the people he worked with, friends, and family. And thing aren't what he seems, when his half-sister's an anorexic and binges on drugs and alcohol, wasting away her life. As she digs deeper into his life, she also deals with an issue with her neighbors as this woman named Lila Sams came into the scene. She becomes suspicious of her and what she's up to and snoops around into her background. At the same time, Kinsey learns that Bobby died in a car accident. While she finishes what she started for her late client, she stumbles onto some hard-core truth on what he's been up to and who wanted to do him in. In the end, she had nipped two complicated cases in the double-edged bud with a shocking climax.

This was a gripping novel from start to finish. It had given me goosebumps right to the ending. I did care for Kinsey and how she dealt with two troubling ordeals. I did feel bad for Bobby and what he had been through, right before he died. I'm so glad that Kitty had changed her life around in the end and tried to get better healthy-wise. I also thought Lila Sams had what was coming to her. I did love the St.Theresa's scenic locations and compelling settings from the hospital and around the town. This would make you shake your head, grimace and groan and gasp a few times. It has non-stop action, drama, suspense, and plenty of twisted turns in this mystery.

  If you love fun and quick cozy reads, you'll enjoy this series. In Sue Grafton's A is for Alibi, the first installment of the Kinsey Millhone series, Kinsey Millhone was a PI, who was hired by Nikki Fife, after she'd been released from prison for doing time on killing her husband. To prove her innocence, she hired Kinsey to find out who did it. Every step she took, she had gotten closer to the truth from Fife's family and co-workers. One by one, new leads brought her closer to danger and to a new dead body or two. Even her potential love interest showed some doubts to Kinsey, while she ended up fighting for her life. A quick and fun read.

This was an enjoyable alphabetical cozy mystery to read from A to Z. I did care about Nikki Fife and about Kinsey Millhone. To clear her name and prove her innocence, that was a big and bold step from her to do. I didn't want to get Kinsey hurt, when I was getting to know her. I did like the location of St. Theresa California for the debut of this series, too. This would take you in for a quick read to read in one setting. Great read, quick action and plenty of dramatic action for a nice climaxing finish.

B is for Burglar

In the 2nd installment of Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series, B is for Burglar, Kinsey Milhone was back for her second case. This one took her to Florida and California. It started with a missing persons case and came unraveling to something else. Kinsey had gotten herself embroiled into this mess and into a heap of hot water. We watched how she connected the puzzle to an arson/murder case and a dash of stolen identity. With a cast of unsavory and suspicious characters, she made new friends and allies and some troubling enemies. Coast to coast, she had some nasty run-ins to cause interference along her way. And at the thick of it, she came face to the face with a heartless cold-blooded killer, putting herself into some danger to the end.

This was another terrific mystery in the Kinsey Millhone series. I did feel sorry for Kinsey for getting tangled into something of a hot mess.  I did feel bad for her, when she came close to danger and receiving enemies along the way. I loved the dual locations of California and Florida for this storyline. This made for a light read in one sitting that you can put down. Great drama, good concept, and intriguing mystery and action to tie up loose ends in the climax.
