Silent Creed
In Alex Kava's Silent Creed, the 2nd installment in the Ryder Creed search and rescue series, she had taken us into the dark world of search and rescue and what lies beneath the surface of evil men. When Ryder was sent on a dangerous mission to rescue buried people from a landslide with his dog, BOLO. As she had gotten closer to know the man behind the mission, he became entangled and snarled into a landslide, when he was buried alive. As they uncovered the truth in the autopsies, that's when FBI Agent Maggie O'Dell arrived in North Carolina and encountered someone from her past. Together, they needed to shed some light into this dark matter of stolen vials and the person behind the madness to stay silent.
This was a fantastic spin-off thriller series from Alex Kava. I cared about Ryder and his SAR dogs. I also cared about Maggie and her concerns about Gwen's breast cancer battle. I love the hidden dark world of mad science and search and rescue in North Carolina for the location with gorgeous scenic settings. This would make you gasp and remain rendered speechless on this wild ride in this thriller. Great drama, excellent suspense, intrigue and non-stop action.

Slices of Night
In Slices of Night from three best-selling authors Erica Spindler, JT Ellison, and Alex Kava, they come together in a thrilling novella that would shock and scintillate you with their best-selling leads. It all started out in New Orleans, when NOPD Detective Stacy Killian, from Erica Spindler's Stacy Killian series, was first on the scene of a killer who killed two homeless people, one of them a teen mother. Stacy also dealt with her miscarriage, when this mini case hit close to her. Then the killer headed over to Nashville, Tennessee, when he also made honed in on two targets, one of them close to him who knew his identity. For Taylor Jackson, from JT Ellison's Taylor Jackson series, newly engaged to FBI Profiler John Baldwin, she discovered the same kills there and tracked him down with CODIS for his past kills. Finally, it ended in Kansas City, Missouri and Omaha, Nebraska, when FBI Profiler Maggie O'Dell, from Alex Kava's Maggie O'Dell series, tied the trio of cases together, while she recovered from her own injuries from the past case. Three times the thrills in one whopping thriller novella.
For this thriller, I enjoyed the collaboration of one cases with three mini stories that linked together. Across the country, they all took you on a thrill ride with an evil menacing serial killer. All roads lead back to him on this triple treat of thrills and chills, when the trail of his crimes happen at night. For the first page to the last, this would grip and hook you in one setting. They also collaborated in another novella, Storm Season, too.
Ready for a thriller trifecta? Check out this novella right now!

Fireproof
Best-selling Alex Kava brought FBI Agent Maggie O'Dell back into her toughest case yet. Maggie recovered from her injuries in the past case and had a lot to deal with at home. A serial arsonist was taking the homeless, leaving a trail of dead bodies in its wake. It was up to her and Julia Racine to find out who he was. And on the scent of the trail, she went after him. But he wasn't who you expected, when you were this close to the fire. He had a particular interest in her and trying to ruin her family with her mother and her half-brother Patrick. And things do get personal. In Fireproof, the 10th book in the Maggie O'Dell series, we rooted for Maggie on the case, when things do scratch the surface in Virginia and Washington D.C. Danger loomed closer to Maggie than ever. Lots of drama and heart-pounding, thrilling action.
I really enjoyed this stand out thriller. I loved how we get to know more about Maggie's brother and his firefighting background. We can see how close she was to her mother and understood more about Patrick. This arsonist plotline was red-hot and fiery at the same time. I loved how she thought fast on her feet and acted upon impulse. When she was on the trail, I became worried about her. But this gripped me from the beginning and made me hold my breath, more than once.

A Necessary Evil
If you love bone-chilling thrillers, you'll love the Maggie O'Dell series by Alex Kava. In A Necessary Evil, the first book in the Maggie O'Dell series, Maggie investigated a serial killer case, when she found the heads and couldn't find the bodies. While this happened, someone threatened Dr. Gwen Patterson. When Maggie was called to go to Nebraska, she reunited with her old flame and on the serial killer case of someone beheading priests and killing them. They believed it had something to do with an online game for abused altar boys to vent out their anger. One by one, a dead beheaded priest was found in different states. As she investigated this case, Gwen's life was in danger, and a lurker wasn't far behind. It had a shocking end I can't give away! You'll have to read it.
This is a great thriller debut with an exciting new heroine to root for. To place the setting in rustic Lincoln Nebraska gave it an urban feel. We do get to learn a bit more about Maggie's background and watch her interact with others. Between Nick and Maggie, we can feel the chemistry they had in the past and could be still there. She made for an intriguing new character. The plotline of the execution of Catholic priests was a bit hard-hitting and still exists today with their abuse of religious power on vulnerable young children to prey on. This one left you with chills and a cold sweat.
