Let It Snow

In Nancy Thayer's Let It Snow, this charming Christmas woman's fiction is perfect to uplift your spirits during the wintry cold holiday season. For Christina Antonioni, she's a small shop owner who lives and works at the Nantucket Wharf, preparing for tourists to buy presents or souvenirs every season. She, and three other shop owners who are her friends, called the Shedders, strive to make sales everyday. But when she meets a little girl named Winifred "Wink" Lombard who stole something in her shop without paying for it. She became enchanted with Wink and reprimanded her for it, when her Uncle Andy and her mother Delia Bittlesman Lombard came in. Wink's parents are caught up in a nasty divorce battle, and Andy's on the island for business. But there's an instant chemistry between them. But there's one little problem: his father, Oscar Bittlesman, is their landlord, and reminiscent of Charles Dickens's Scrooge in the Christmas Carol. When he decided to raise the rent, it raised a lot of eyebrows. For Christina, she might have to put her growing relationship with Andy on hold, while she feared she might go out of business at the start of the year. Between Christina and her fellow Shedder friends, they needed to come up with a plan to get him to change his mind. They put their heads together to put on the Christmas spirit by singing Christmas carols. With a touch of Christmas magic, Christina had gotten her wish and a happily ever after she always dreamed of too.

This was a wonderful and beautiful woman's fiction set during the Christmas season. I cared for Christina and how she managed to warm everyone's hearts and stayed afloat with her business. I adored Wink and thought Andy was a pretty charming man himself. I loved the Nantucket island for the enchanted location and the seasonal scenic settings for this sweet story. This would put you into the holiday spirit and fill your heart with good will and tidings with some drama, a spark of romance, some drama, and a hint of humor to keep you warm after you finished this wonderful book.

The Write Escape

In Charish Reid's The Write Escape, this contemporary romance is so wonderfully written and moving and would take you on an amazing journey. For Antonia Harper, she's planning her wedding, working on a historical romance novel, and stuck in her editing job at a small literary press in Chicago. With a shake-up at work, she discovered her fiance Derek Rogers has been cheating on her. She breaks up the wedding and went on an escape to Ireland where she would've spent her honeymoon. During her stay at Tully Cross, she runs into Professor Aidan Byrnes, a hot Irish white male, at Supervalu, and also her next-door neighbor in the small village, who became her friend and didn't mind she was an African-American woman. Besides his sexy Irish brogue, he had lost his inspiration for his conference paper to get tenure at the college. But Antonia had helped him find it, when they discuss their own emotional baggage issues, and be inspired by each other to pursue their literary dreams. But they had some hiccups along the way if they want to be together in the end. But they followed their hearts and thier dreams to find their own HEA in a blissful way.

This was a sweet and a fantastic contemporary romance that features diverse characters and a charming cast. I cared for Antonia completely when she needed to escape from Chicago and to break a break from it all. I also found Aidan a real charmer and a sexy piece of eye-candy who had met his match in Toni. I care for them both who rescued each other and loved each other despite the odds, no matter what life throws along the way. I loved the Irish locations and the scenic settings up and around the town that made it feel idyllic and charming to stay in the village. This would make you want to find your own retreat with some humorous bits, a lot of loving, some sweet Irish drama and action throughout the novel.

Sailing to Capri

In Elizabeth Adler's Sailing to Capri, this mystery is set on land and also on the ocean to take you on a majestic journey across the Mediterranean Sea. It all started for Daisy Keane, a divorced American who worked for English Tycoon, Robert Hardwick. He became her savior when she hit her lowest point and gave her a job at his home and a place to live. They became fast best friends. But when he mysteriously dies from a car accident, it's up to Daisy to follow his belated orders to track down a killer. With the help from Harry Montana, his hired PI, they rounded up six suspects and invited him to take a cruise to Capri when all would be revealed. Daisy didn't get along with Harry at the first, but they worked together to do some profiling on the true suspects which included his ex-lovers and his wife. Along for the ride, she invited her best friend Bordelaise to keep her company as they threw some red herrings into the mix. After all accepted the invitation that came with a money attachment, they sailed to Capri when secrets are revealed, true intentions are discovered, and the real killer revealed himself after the reading of his will. Almost everyone had gotten a second chance including Daisy who found a brand new start for her life too with a mesmerizing ending.

This was a fantastic mystery for every enthusiastic mystery-loving reader would sink their teeth into in the first page. I've cared for Daisy and how her louse of her husband had treated her before they divorced. She was a real likeable person to root for. Bordelaise was a hoot to have as her best friend. And Harry was a charming guy, who became somewhat of a perfect match for Daisy when they worked well together. I loved the English countryside settings and the gripping Mediterranean scenic locations on and off the cruise including Capri island. This mystery has plenty of drama, non-stop action, suspense, and sparks of romance--something for everyone.

Cold Case Secrets

In Maggie K Black's Cold Case Secrets, the 4th installment in the True North Heroes romantic suspense series, this novel would have you hooked on the first page. For RCMP Detective Jacob Henry, all he wanted to do is to find the truth about his sister's murder, a cold case that remained unsolved for over a decade. For the Ontario regiment, he's on the manhunt for three ruthless convicts who escaped from prison until he ran into Grace Finch, a hostage who needed his help. From the instant they met, there was something about her and what she was hiding from him. On the search to find his late sister's Faith's locket in the cabin, he followed Grace, an investigative reporter, straight there. But it left him with more questions than answers. more than never. For Grace, she had feelings for Jacob and had been rebuffed from him when she wanted to ask him out for coffee. But she kept a secret from him: Hal Turner is her biological father who escaped from prison and wanted to speak to her. Together, they learned to trust one each other and to find out the truth which led them onto a path of danger and a trail of corruption to someone closest to Jacob with a shocking ending on whodunit and why.

This was a great heart-pounding romantic suspense that took you front and center in the middle of the action. I cared for Jacob who wanted answers on why his sister Faith was killed. He wouldn't get peace until he found out for it. I also cared for Grace, who harbored such an unearthing secret that might've killed their friendship and something else. But I'm glad they've put their faith in God and rescued each other to find each other. They both put their hearts and their lives on the line. I loved the intense scenic settings and memorable locations throughout Ontario's woods and outside of it. This would make you want to root for Grace and Jacob as they defied the odds with non-stop action, plenty of drama, suspense, and sparks of romance through and through.

The Wolf Wants In

In Laura McHugh's the Wolf Wants In, this scintillating thriller will send you guessing and leave you at the edge of the seat. It all started for Sadie Keller, a single mother, who's looking for answers on what happened to her brother Shane and how he died. Her sister-in-law Krystle might be hiding something when she investigated the truth of the matter. In Blackwater, Kansas, news had broken out about Macey Calhoun's little body had been found out. A lot of suspicion went down on who could've done it in that small town. As for Henley Pettitt, her sister-in-law's cousin, she knows what happened to Shane and works as a housekeeper for Earl Sullivan. Though she might've fallen head over heels with his son Jason, who had a ton of emotional baggage to claim, she wanted to get out of those small opioid-ravaged town fast. Between the two of them, they would find justice, peace of mind, and piece together what happened to Shane Keller and set things right to move on with their lives.

This is a gripping thriller that deals with real life events on how the opioid crisis had taken over small towns and innocent young lives. You hear it on the news everyday. I did care for Sadie on how she would do anything to learn the truth about her brother's death. I also felt sad for poor Gravy who mourned Shane's loss and had no will to eat. That really pulled at my heartstrings. I also cared for Henley who's mother had her own issues and ended up in jail. But she would do anything to get out of town and find some peace of mind to set her free for a new life. I did love the Shade Tree/Blackwater small town scenes in rural Kansas and how picturesque the settings were for those ideal locations. The ending would leave you speechless on how it came together like a jigsaw puzzle with non-stop action, plenty of intrigue, hints of mystery and a spark of drama.

A Pitying of Doves

In Steve Burrows's A Pitying of Doves, the 2nd installment in the Birder Murder Mystery series, this interesting caper title would keep you at the seat and make you want to find out more. It all started out for Chief Inspector Domenic JeJeune of the Norfolk Regiment of the RCMP when they received a call about a double murder in a bird sanctuary for doves. For Domenic, who's a fellow birder as a hobby, they came to investigate the scene of the crime in Norfolk. They looked for clues in the sanctuary and the identities of the bodies to one Mexican consulate and the fellow college student at a local university. If one murder wasn't enough, they had two on their lands when it led them to find more about the super-species of doves and the owner of them. Piece by piece, Inspector JeJeune would find out why and how they've gotten there and who wanted to kill them, while he tried not to let his birding hobby get the best of him to look for clues. The closer they get to the truth, the more it unravels before him and his team when they get closer to danger with every new lead along the way., including one of their own suspects being murdered. He would do everything in his power to stop at nothing before his putting his career--and his life--on the line to have it done.

This was an interesting mystery series. You learn something new about birding as a hobby for birdwatching and about the specific bird in general for the series. Doves are one of my favorite birds, whether they're white or grey. This made me care about the doves too. I like Chief Inspector JeJeune and how he and his squad went out to solve a most complex mystery to tie things up in a big bow. We can see how he cared for Lindy, his girlfriend, and his love for birds. I also love the Canadian locations and the scenic settings including the bird sanctuary for this novel. This would make you want to care for birds and follow his footsteps with non-stop drama, plenty of drama, lots of action, and scoops of suspense from start to finish.

One Dark Wish

In Sharon Wray's One Dark Wish, the 2nd installment in the Deadly Force romantic suspense series, this novel is gripping and powerful from the first page. It all started for historian Sarah Munroe when she's looking for clues and ancient artifacts in a Puritan love story that's more than three centuries old. When she's been shot at, she ran across Nate Walker, a former veteran who's dealing with seizures and had been dishonorably discharged for a massacre in Afghanistan. When Nate spotted Sarah at the Isle of Grace cemetery in Savannah, she became intrigued on his presence there. And there was a chemistry between them. Two weeks later, they meet at the same place and at the wrong time, when he warmed her not to search for clues in the cemetery. There's a war between the Fianna warriors and the Prince's men that's darn-right deadly. But Sarah was more than hell-bent to look for clues and work on that grant proposal to fund the money for her research... it's something she held close to her heart since her late mother had been fascinated with that Puritan love story and its secret cipher code. While dealing with threats for her father's health and the war outside, Sarah and Nate work together to discover the mystery while they deal with threats and other obstacles including from Nate's own XO who had them followed. The closer they get to the truth, the more they unearth the mystery that might be linked to Sarah's birth father. But the sparks would be flying between them to set the night on fire, though there was a ticking timeline before Nate's sent back to a prison hospital in Maine. Even with time's not on their side, they would put their lives on the line to set thing right and happy a sweet ending that would last a lifetime.

This was a fantastic romantic suspense that would keep you at the edge of your seat. I did care for Sarah and how she dealt with her father's declining health and how she'd gotten into a lethal mess. I loved that she wanted to started what her mother finished and to pick up the pieces to solve this centuries-old puzzle. I also love Nate, who was a bit diverse, since he's dyslexic, and had haunted issues of his own between his family and military life. I liked how they worked together to defy the odds and watch the spark fly between them to find their perfect match. The scenic locations in Savannah were fantastic and spectacular for the settings from the isle and around the town to make it idealistic and perfect. This has a lot of action-packed suspense, lots of sparking romance, plenty of non-stop drama and tons of hinted mysteries to keep you wanting more in the end.

Absolute Power

In David Baldacci's Absolute Power, this political thriller is so intense, it cuts straight through with a knife. It all started when the President, Alan Richmond, got over his head with an affair with a younger woman who got rough with him. He ordered two of his Secret Service Men to take out the hit, while an old-time cat burglar watched everything unfold behind the scenes. Though they covered up all the tracks to make it like a burglary, they kept everything on the down low from the police. They put up the facade and put on a good show. Caught in the middle is Jack Graham, a lawyer from a prestigious law firm, engaged to Jen Baldwin, when he wanted to move on the up and up. When his ex-fiancée's father, Luther Whitney comes to him for help, saying he fears for his life, he turns to his ex, Kate, and lets her know. Besides old history, they had feelings for each other. When he reveals what Luther came to him and said, she becomes dubious. Meanwhile President Richmond played his card close to his chest on the investigation, acting like a good friend to Walter Sullivan, and pretending everything's all right. And when the DC PD discover Luther's connection, they believe they've gotten the guy when it turns all out wrong with a massive hit on his head and a major fallout. He would do everything to save face and not let the world know, even if it might cost him everything by destroying evidence and going after Jack next. In the end, there's a mind-blowing twist in the end for Jack and Richmond for a big clincher.

This was an excellent and mind-boggling, mind-numbing political thriller. On every turned page, I was hooked from start to finish to sink my teeth into a compelling and fascinating plot line. I cared for Jack on how he had gotten stuck into this situation in the first place. He might not have feelings for Jen, when he didn't want a loveless marriage, not from what she'd done to his friend at the firm. I did care for Kate, who were estranged from her father, and blamed him from what he'd done to her and her mother. But she felt she had to do the right thing in the end. I believe they might reconnect at some point. From the White House and all around the D.C. area, the scenic settings were strong and powerful with poignant in those various locations. This would make you want to buckle your seat belt and to hold on tight for a wild ride with non-stop action, plenty of political drama, lots of intense suspense with hints of mystery on every page.
