Leave No Trace

In this book review blog post, I reviewed AJ Landau’s Leave No Trace, the first installment in the Michael Walker National Park Service thriller series. This amazing thriller debut hits all the tight notes on what’s going on in the world today. For Michael Walker, he was assigned to Liberty Island National Park, when the Statue of Liberty exploded, and helped Danny Logan from the melee. With his help capturing the video on his phone, it clued him in on what was really going on. When he touched base with Gina Delgado, who worked for the National Park Service, they teamed up to discover the biggest mystery of them all. With a new brewing war of domestic terrorism on the homeland, it had solved a mystery of its own–who killed his wife and left him an amputee in the onslaught. From New York, Utah, and later to Ohio, it was a race of time to stop them before things got worse by an implosion.

This chilling thriller would leave you speechless and chilled with goosebumps with every turned page to keep you hooked with fast-paced action and dramatic suspense. I cared for Gina, who had an unlikely background, which made her suited for her current role. And I cared for Michael, who lost his wife, while his father-in–law hated his guts. I loved how this showed diversity, since Michael lost his leg, and didn’t stop him from doing a job he loved. I loved the various national park locations, which gave us some breath-taking scenic settings for every compelling setting. The theme of the story is that greed is a deadly sin, when you mess around with our country’s landscapes.

If you love adoring gripping thrillers with plenty of nail-biting drama, and lots of tension, you’ll love Leave No Trace. This novel is recommended for fans who love the national parks, Nevada Barr mysteries, Scott Graham, and Claire Kellis.
