Lay Me to Rest

In E.A. CLark's Lay Me to Rest, this thriller has a curvy twist featuring a ghost story or two that would keep you wondering about the afterlife. Annie Phillips is a new widow and also pregnant with her first child. While she had gone through her mental health issues and grieving the loss of her husband Graham, her sister suggested she would take a healthy respite in a cottage in Wales. That's when she met the Parrys, an elderly couple, and Peter Roberts, a friend of the family. But during her first night, things aren't what they seem for Annie when a spirit awakens her and asks her for her help. Startled, she informs the Parrys about this ghostly intruder, especially when things had gone violent. Feared for her life, they requested the help of Pastor Evans and his wife Nia, who was something of a ghost whisperer. When she thought she could handle one spirit, there was another violent presence. And it all seemed to be connected to the Parrys, past and present. Both of those spirits had shared the same name. The first one wanted to be reunited with her unborn child, when her story was sad and tragic in the past. The second one had to deal with violence on who killed her and why, when it had a connection to a previous death. Now it was up to Annie to set things straight to lay both spirits to rest, so they can cross to the other side in peace. Later, after Annie gives birth to her daugher. A year later, she meets Leo, a single father, when another ghost visits her from beyond the grave... a perfect seque if this leads to another novel.

This was a chilling thriller with an entertwined ghost story as the center plot. I did feel for Annie who had flashbacks of her relationship with Graham and remembers the memory they had together. I did feel bad that his bad was cut short, while she tried her best to move on with her life. I did like the way how the two ghost stories were connected with one another with the Parry family. Though I've found Peter too condescending and callously cold. I did like the rural Welsh settings from the cottage to her home in England. I did like the Parrys as well, though something had made me disconcerting about Will Parry in the end. This would make you ask questions about the hereafter and believe in angels or in ghosts. It would leave you goosebumps and hair raise at the back of the neck with non-stop action, suspense, drama and intrigue. (My e-arc had minor grammar/spacing issues.)

Will you be enchanted to read Lay Me To Rest tonight?
