Black Out

In Black Out, Lisa Unger enthralled us with another heart-pounding thriller. In this one, we were introduced to Annie Powers, a wife and mother, who had a secret life. And not everything was what she seems. We discovered her turbulent past life in flash backs, when she was known as Ophelia March. Somehow we watched how it trickled back in her past, when she broke down and cracked at the surface. Terrible headaches, bad memories, flashbacks and nightmares return. Everything she knew and trusted changes. We were delved into her psyche and watched how she tried to hold it together, when she fell apart, until it left her no other choice, no other way out, to confront her past and move on her life, before she blacked out for good. This dealt with you on an emotionally, physically, and spiritual level. This sucked me right into her world, when she told her story. It would do the same for you.

In this thriller, I really began to feel strong caring feelings for Ophelia aka Annie. When she had those painful headaches to block out with, I cringed and gritted my teeth for her. I really didn't want to see her in so much pain. I hated when her past life resurfaced to bring her back into the void. In three parts, you would care for her as well.

Die For You

If you love suspense at the finest, you'll enjoy Lisa Unger's Die For You. This novels started with a chase scene in Prague, when Isabel Raines was injured. From there, she told her story of how her life unraveled with her husband, Marcus Raine, who wasn't what he said who he really was. She learned the truth on his deceit, his con, of how he set things up to exit their relationship and tarnished things with her family. When she gotten closer to the truth, she went after him and demanded answers, which might cost her her life. Beautiful scenes in Prague throughout the story and in New York, too. What a thrill ride.

This was an intense and exciting thriller. I love the backdrop of New York and Prague for the two locations. It really made it exhilarating to build up the suspense. I really felt bad for Isabel to go through this shock and awe in her life. Marcus had sent me some bad vibes. The FBI characters also gave me the chills. This made me drop my jaw, sigh and take a couple of deep breaths.  It left me feeling cold all over.

Beautiful Lies

If you love a powerful read for a thriller, you'll love this debut novel from Lisa Unger. In Beautiful Lies,  Ridley Jones was a freelance author in New York City, when her life changed in an instant. When she saved a boy from being abducted, someone sent her cryptic notes and old newspaper clippings. She then met Jake, her boyfriend and lover, who had a dark past. She remembered past conversations with her parents and her brother Ace, who was a druggie. When she met Christian Luna, a man claiming to be her father, things changed again. She now became someone's target. It made her question her identity and those to trust, until she got down to the truth, for a journey of no other, when her life shifted once more. What a great start for a new thriller series.

This was a fantastic thriller debut. Non-stop action with a picturesque New York City location for the scenery. Ridley Jones was an interesting character as an author. For her father and Jake, they were both loose cannons.  As for Ace, I didn't like him as much. She dealt with some many things being thrown at her, I bet it was hard for her to keep it all in check. But I cared for her and liked her a lot.  With page-turning suspense, you'll want to read it more and literally couldn't put it down.
